So it's not even a good satire website? Neil was 100% correct is his tweet that apparently prompted that "article" in response, which was neither funny or insightful.

Even if he did, the point of it still stands. There are way bigger issues going on, that people care about far less. Like I was reading an article the other day about how the deadliest cancers are some of the ones with the least funding while relatively minor ones with low kill counts get tons of money. People thinking and acting based off of illogical nonsense like "empathy" literally make the world a worse place than if they would actually consider data for once.

It's something that makes a great headline, but not much of a story... although it's still an improvement on this.

...so you'd be happier if the low kc one got basically no money? Because making one's funds worse doesn't make the other one better. And empathy is what gets people to donate. If they were pragmatic, they wouldn't bother and instead trust that somebody else would do it.

Wat

Consider the following:

Back in the 80s-90s, big title video games sold mainly on their merit as quality titles. Developers were making games to sell based on nothing other than the amount of entertainment a very selective group of people would get. Then the internet gets all big, news spreads, and everyone gets into gaming, right? Big ole' economic boom for game developers, which is cool, except now like 80% of your profit is coming from secondary and tertiary players who have never even played a game in the series before, touch the game for 3 hours, bitch about some stuff online and now the developers have a dozen and a half splintering groups to cater to. So they cast a very wide net to pull in that casual majority again because they're gonna buy the game. They might not finish it. They may not evem enjoy it. But they got the sale and that's what matters. Not the original fans or the legacy of the series or any acclaim.

Nearly every classic series has been stripped bare to some vanilla, inoffensive as possible, boring slog of a game.

New Doom had upgrades and lots of cinematics.

New Mario games are much too forgiving.

Zelda games toss hints at you like crazy (big shoutout to BotW for not doing that)

Final Fantasy is a fucking joke.

All because those series got big, attracted a lot of different crowds, mostly those who only played the game because of the hype, and now nobody knows what anyone wants anymore.

None of this is true. Also not even the older Mario games were super hard. They were not Contra.

I'm not sure that was ever true, especially given how dicey a lot of Nintendo games and even SNES games were. And the gaming public was less informed at that point as well.

...because they evolved based on market demands. And, honestly, the original Zelda was pointlessly confusing. Had they kept that direction, it would have been far more niche and eventually replaced by Zelda clones that took a hint.

Mario games are more forgiving because the franchise has a lot of younger players and overly challenging games are a turnoff to them (which is why they had *already* softened up by Super Mario Land on the SNES). Doom has upgrades and cinematics because it's an industry trend. Your Final Fantasy complaint has no substance so it can't be addressed.

The early Mario games were not hard at all. Also they learned they fucked up with Zelda 2 and went back to their roots with Link to the Past.
