Who the fuck is shitposting, I'm being completely serious. RE5's weapon depictions made me spend a lot of time on the RE wiki looking up facts about the guns in the game and it made me want to own some of them, particularly a Beretta 92FS.

Video games are absolutely the source of any interest I have in firearms, so fuck off.

Firearms shouldn't be portrayed as awesome things, they should be seen as dangerous and complex machines that aren't meant to do anything other than harm. In defense, possibly, but there isn't an outcome where shooting a weapon isn't with the intent of imparting lethal force.

If you want to claim there's a firearm obsession in America, I'm going to tell you what I think inspired my interest in them. You probably hate it because it hits too close to home but frankly it's true. I like firearms and want to own them because I think their portrayal in video games made them seem interesting to me.

I think mass shootings are caused by angry, lonely individuals who let rage build up over the course of several years and seek out forums where they can be reassured that "ending it all in a mass of bodies including my own" is the only outcome.

But that isn't what I wanted to address, I was trying to address the "America has a gun obsession problem" issue. If gun culture in this country has run amok and can no longer be tolerated, we have a fundamental, intrinsic shift that has to be made and it's more than just "ban the sale of firearms". We have to teach the people that firearm ownership is not necessarily a desirable thing, just a necessity and that owning a gun doesn't make you a better person, which right now I feel like our society encourages. Something that, I personally believe, the media has steered into by portraying guns almost like cigarettes were in a different age (that cool, sexy people have them and it makes you enviable).

The shooter was a loner who had no friends and said that his only motivation was to get by. That by itself is evidence that he had some sort of mental turmoil. How did no one see that there was something wrong with him?

How often do people break into your home tbh? Honestly having guns inside your home is more dangerous to the household than it being safe.

Higher risk of you having an accident than someone actually breaking into your home.
