In 1998 the American Jewish Committee (AJC) and the Japanese American National Museum issued a joint statement;

A concentration camp is a place where people are imprisoned not because of any crimes they have committed, but simply because of who they are. Although many groups have been singled out for such persecution throughout history, the term 'concentration camp' was first used at the turn of the [20th] century in the Spanish American and Boer Wars. During World War II, America's concentration camps were clearly distinguishable from Nazi Germany's. Nazi camps were places of torture, barbarous medical experiments and summary executions; some were extermination centers with gas chambers. Six million Jews were slaughtered in the Holocaust. Many others, including Gypsies, Poles, homosexuals and political dissidents were also victims of the Nazi concentration camps. In recent years, concentration camps have existed in the former Soviet Union, Cambodia and Bosnia. Despite differences, all had one thing in common: the people in power removed a minority group from the general population and the rest of society let it happen.

So youll attack my stance, but wont provide a better idea.

Noted.

You're the one trying to prove something, not me. No matter how much of a tantrum you throw, it doesn't mean I need to prove your argument for you.

Im not asking you to prove MY idea. Im telling you that if youre gonna critique it, then provide YOUR idea instead. If you wont, then just step off, lol.

I really gotta spell that out? My point stands. Theres nothing to prove.

You want me to prove that saying "My country is better than a pseudo dictatorship, so it's the best" is an idiotic thing to say?

Lol

Both. Why must stupid fuckers like you continually make this some partisan bullshit like everybody has the same Democrat vs Republican brain disease as you?

No one was crying about this during Obama run. Well besides Bernie. If we get rid of the dentition camps. What is next? Open borders? How are you going to keep track of these people? You think they are going to show up to court to see if their asylum was granted? I just see bitching and no one with solutions.

Conditions at certain facilities under Obama weren't great but at least the people detained there weren't sleeping in their own feces, received medical care and could brush their teeth on a regular basis.

Trump literally asked for the funding to stop people from showing up and democrats screeched. Dems fault they are overcrowded. Perhaps Dems shouldnt incentivize people dragging children through a dangerous country and desert to get in the US and enjoy a bunch of freebies that we have to pay for.

The system is overloaded and congress is too stubborn you change the laws or provide more funding.

They did provide more funding; it wasn't used to improve conditions but rather to conduct more raids.

The no tolerance and family separation policy are why they're overcrowded. The old policy was letting the families enter the U.S. to wait for their hearing. It was cost effective and didn't involve torture.

Yeah but that didn't let conservatives live out their dream of putting brown people in camps.

well I don't say this because I feel it would be taken the wrong way, but since you asked I think that concentrations camps are probably less morally evil than our foreign policy generally has been for my entire adult life so I honestly am not experiencing any new feelings about our moral standing or w/e

Lol at people claiming America is the best and then comparing it with third world countries. Most of the first world is a considerably better place to live than America.

That's because the right wants the US to be a third world country.

The shitty conditions in the asylum seeking detention centers are indeed shameful and I'm embarassed that I live in this country where people will defend that, but I'd also be embarassed to live in a country where the educational system hasn't taught you what that word means TC.

This is the 2nd time America has run concentration camps.

Stop using that word. They used internment camps which were awful in the 40s and they're not keeping their asylum centers staffed and treated properly now which is almost as awful.

They're not concentration camps. Stop it.

Tomato Tomato

The people running the Japanese camps called them concentration camps.

Definitions aren't a contest. The example that's the biggest and best/worst doesn't win ownership of the word. The first thing I think of when I hear genocide and a number of words is the Holocaust/Nazi Germany. Doesn't mean genocide now means "the deliberate killing of a large group of people, but only when the Nazis do it"

Is this the same reasoning when you call our racist president a literal nazi? Why are you in love with downplaying our generations of being oppressed with shitty comparisons to things because you lack the vocabulary to properly do so?

I have never called Trump a literal Nazi. He literally is not.

You don't even seem to know what Nazi concentration camps were, let alone what all concentration camps are. Not all Nazi camps were concentration camps.

Why do you want to give Nazis the power to take possession of words?

Nothing justifies the extremely abhorrent treatment if all these stories are true, but to call them concentration camps is just missing the mark. It's putting a spin on it like the US wants to round up and care for hundreds or thousands citizens of other countries. It's not their fault if they're being treated in inhumane ways. They should be given at least basic human standards, but it's an outside problem coming in.

I'm on reddit talking about this and it blows my mind that people say it's OK that this is happening to kids, because "they're criminals and this wouldn't have happened if they broke the law".

I seriously don't understand how much of a psychopath a person has to be to think that it's OK. Even if it doesn't affect you, that fact should at least still *bother you* to a certain extent.
