I suddenly remembered an incident that happened over three years ago when this happened to me. I had just signed up for a MeetUp group that met on some weekday. I was not aware that the location that we'd be meeting up at would be serving alcohol. That's why I was surprised when reception asked me for my ID. They told me it was fake, and started scowling at me because they kept thinking that I was a high-schooler trying to get beer or something. Then I called the contact number for the group I was supposed to be meeting with. I found them, and then this bloke at the table told the waiter to order some hard lemonades and a water for me, because supposedly I looked underaged. I tried showing them my ID to prove that I was twenty-three. At first, they concluded that it was some other bloke on the ID. I sort of laughed at them in my head when they did this. Later, they all said that even though it was my picture on there, it was fake even though they wouldn't say how they thought that. They kept badgering me to show him my real ID that showed I was sixteen or something. I didn't very much enjoy people thinking I was trying to join a MeetUp group or forge an ID just to get alcohol. It's not a very comfortable feeling when everyone thinks you're some kind of liar. I cannot even have alcohol due to my medication; this was a story that they immediately dismissed. It was one of the most embarrassing nights of my life. After I left, I heard that same bloke mention to the rest of the group how I was out on a school night, which wasn't exactly incorrect.

Oh, and I should probably tell this board right now, that my memory is very, very unreliable. Half of what I remember is nonsense due to a lot of memories being repressed and forgotten for many years. When these memories come back, I can't help but always think about what else about the memory in question I had forgotten. It drives me mad, and for some reason, I cannot stop obsessing over it even though I am more than aware that it's over and done with. All of the experiences that have caused me distress or embarrassment are convoluted together and sometimes I cannot even tell if a memory even happened or not. That's why it's so hard for me to recall the past, so distressing for me to attempt to, and so difficult to tell which memories happened and which did not. In short, before you take the story seriously, please bear in mind that there is a chance that it never actually happened. Anyway, has anyone been refused alcohol for the sole reason that they looked underaged?

I don't drink, but I'd probably still get carded if I do. My brother Poseidon got carded and evicted from a restaurant once despite being of age because they thought the ID was fake.

You can be refused before you hand in your ID. Or when you have ID and they dont think its real. Like in this story...

I was carded for a rated R movie when I was 31 before. I think she was just being a ball buster though.

In my lifetime? Of course. Smokes too. The challenge 25 rule is dumb af when the legal age to do these things is 18 so looking under 25 shouldn't matter. I never had any I.D until recently when I got my passport. Currently? Nope. I don't smoke no more and have no issue at all buying alcohol without I.D. I'm also past 25 and look older with my facial hair.

I used to get carded when I bought alcohol. Haven't bought any in over 15 years, so I doubt they would now

One time I was buying a 6 pack at a grocery store along with a bunch of other shit. The cashier made a huge stink about my id being fake (it wasnt and I was like 23-24). She decided she wasnt going to accept my ID so I told her I wasnt buying all the other shit then and that I was never coming back to their shitty store.

Hope they had fun putting away the 20-30 items I left on the counter.

I never looked underage at any point when I might conceivably have been trying to buy alcohol.

I was 6'3" and had a robust goatee by the time I was 17. At least a few times I bought alcohol and wasn't even carded (though people were less strict about that sort of thing 20 years ago).
