48 y/o Married Fire Captain, Richard Loughry who paid $300 for a 15 y/o to have SEX with him gets NO PRISON because he was a MODEL CITIZEN up until this charge!!

He will avoid prison and serve 5 years probation and register as a sex offender

The judge told a tearful Loughry "I feel sorry for you. You had nothing but serve our community for your entire career. And to have this happen to you is really and truly a tragedy" He pointed out that he had a "spotless record" and was a "model citizen" who worked his life to save lives despite the "big hole" he has now on his record.

Loughry resigned from the Las Vegas Fire Department shortly after the arrest and initially faced 3 counts of lewdness with a child under 16, 2 counts of child abuse, neglect or endangerment and 1 count of soliciting prostitution of a minor

Before leaving, the judge told him "I wish you the very best"

He had contacted a girl, who purpoted to be 22, via Craigslist and asked if she would be comfortable coming to his Las Vegas station.

But despite the girl admitting she was 15, he STILL paid her 300 for SEX and told her to KEEP QUIET as he led her to a dorm room where they did it. She spent 45 minutes with the married firefighter.

A dozen family members and firefighters sat behind him and described him as a "good man" who served nearly 20 years and caleld his crime the most stupid, devastating decision he's ever made.

He plead guilty to attempted statutory sexual seduction and soliciting prostitution

He's now working as a truck driver and is receiving counselling and the judge remarked 90 LETTERS written in support of the shamed fire captain

Do you think someone's job and their "good work" they've given to the community should grant them leniency in a crime they committed?

Richard - Not going to prison

Some sort of leniency? Sure. I don't believe a life spent doing good should be disregarded for one despicable act. Just like I don't believe a lifetime of despicable acts should be redeemed by a single decent act.
But absolutely no prison time and a judge kissing ass is a few leaps too far

Eh...that was a shitty thing to do, but we aren't just the worst thing we've ever done.

I do think if you have a clean record and a history of valuable community service, that should play a part in granting leniency to your sentence on your first offense.

I don't know if no jail time at all is the right call though.

I imagine the hell he's gonna get from the wife will be more than enough. And the embarrassment that will follow for the remainder of his life.

Damn I think I've seen this guy around town. Possibly at walmart.

Fucking corrupt judge what about the 15 year old girl fuck both of them

Why did she say she was 22 at first?

Would this have been legal if she was 16 instead of 15?

It does seem like he got off easy. Did we get the whole story here?

I think he's referring to the offender and the judge when he says "both of them."

And honestly, I do think "good work" should factor in to how harsh the sentence is. They do deserve some leniency. I think this was far too much leniency, though. If the maximum sentence is 20 years, for example, maybe give them 10 instead. They don't get a complete free pass just because they worked hard, but there is value in the work they've done so that should be considered.

Okay but consider this though:

He's a model citizen
He knows right from wrong
He knows pedophilia is not just wrong as a social issue, but that it's a crime
As a model citizen who knows better and what happens to those who get caught doing such things, he still opted to do such things

He should actually be punished more harshly because he knows better

This makes no sense. A first offense shouldn't be accompanied by stronger penalties.

No one is implying this is acceptable behavior. The judge delivered a punishment that is appropriate for the crime committed and the history of the criminal.

*looks up story*

Hmm. I don't see the "But despite the girl admitting she was 15" part mentioned on any news site that talks about the story. In fact one site said:

The last time we covered this case in court, Loughry's attorney argued that he had no idea the girl was underage, stating that the ad listed her age as 22.

Duckbear, did you just make that part up to make the story more triggering? Because him knowing she was 15 and him not knowing she was 15 changes the story dramatically. If you actually made that part up that's pretty misleading even for you man.

He does add in a bunch of his own interpretations that do occasionally turn out to be false. I looked it up and didn't see anything about him knowing either although a big part of his charges seems to be the prostitution which is illegal there even if he didn't know.

Duckbear should be moderated for false reporting. He's intentionally lying to rile people up which is trolling. I have reported him.
