Generally, when you say you roast someone, it's meant to invoke humor.

And it's expected from the wording since it's coming from a professional comedian.

I get his point, but he's at a session for a sub-sub committee. This is one step removed from Clint Eastwood and the Empty Chair.

Devoid of context, he totally owned those heartless politicians.

In context, he's actually climbing the wrong ladder against the wrong wall.

I'm not saying 9/11 first responders don't deserve funding the best care, but he's not even at the right place to lambast the right people. He's complaining about the steak he ordered at an Uno's.

Yeah, after reading some of the responses, the empty chairs were intentional and defended.

Still, good on him for sticking it to a hypocritical congress.

The question is if this'll do anything except raise a couple "likes" and trend. It's easier for people set in their ways to just keep doing what they've been doing instead of changing, since that requires effort and they're not being paid for this extra effort so...

Nevertheless, congress is just a deep swamp. Hell, Washington DC was built on a swamp so it's only natural that the swamp becomes them all. Can't change fate.

Again, Jon's heart is in the right place, but his head is squarely up his ass on this one.

All he's going to get for his virtue signalling on this one is "thoughts and prayers".

Nobody can be there all the time, especially given how much time they have to devote to fundraising and campaigning.

Also, NPR explains what actually happened:
https://www.npr.org/2019/06/11/731706492/jon-stewart-blasts-lawmakers-in-hearing-for-sept-11-victim-compensation
Rep. Steve Cohen noted that the hearing was held before the Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties and not the full committee.

"All these empty chairs, that's because it's for the full committee. It's not because of disrespect or lack of attention to you," the Tennessee Democrat said.

The hearing came just hours before the full House was set to vote on a civil contempt resolution against Attorney General William Barr and former White House counsel Don McGahn.

Ok, but in this case, that is literally all he's going to accomplish here because his ass isn't in the right chair to complain to the right people. He's wearing a Jets jersey at a Yankees game here.

To whom is he going to make a difference? He's objecting to the Jones-Smith wedding while attending the Schultz-Simonson wedding.

I can keep these metaphors going all night.

He's not trying to make a difference. He's just acting righteous over a heart-grab issue that has no real bearing on anything.
