What they found was that conservatives who had learned about white privilege were no more sympathetic to the poor black man than conservatives who had not learned about white privilege.

This is true. Conservatives don't see color, but individual circumstance.

Bullshit.

If conservatives didnt see color, they would stop trying to suppress minority voters.

Hey bub, cut out the conspiracy BS.

ITP: Jim Crow laws never happened

Immaterial to your current year conspiracy and both parties supported the end of Jim Crow laws.

Then why are Florida Republicans going against the will of the people and fighting against giving felons the right to vote? You know, felons that are predominately minorities? Same with voter ID laws.

Pretty easy to figure out why, but you're being silly if you think it's as simple as muh racism. Same for needing an ID to vote.

You do realize felons not being able to vote is a Jim Crow-era law, right? They did it so they could arrest minorities, slap them with a felony, and then they couldnt vote.

I've never studied white privilege and I have little sympathy for poor rural whites. As a demographic they continually vote against their own best interests because of guns, religion, and race. Why would I feel sorry for someone who keeps shooting themselves in the foot.

What about poor, urban, liberal whites? Any sympathy there?

It is ironic that liberals have this idea of a country hick living in a trailer marrying his cousin and extremely uneducated...

But then suggest he is benefitting massively to have a better than life than the black lawyer in a bmw.

Makes you think.

Do they continually vote for politicians who actively advance policies that run counter to the their best interests? I haven't met any, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

Yeah, liberals can vote for shitty people too ya know. Does not growing up so misinformed that you are tricked into voting against your interests garner some degree of sympathy itself?

"...but if it confirms my bias..."

But anyway, this aspect is too complicated for this board. Even mentioning the term "white privilege" generates a considerable froth.

Pretty much.

they're constantly being bombarded with propaganda telling them to shoot themselves in the foot, and they're also victims of major voter suppression

The term "white privilege" is inherently inaccurate, antagonistic, and borderline racist.

For one, almost all the privilege that whites in the U.S. have, Asians also have. In fact, they're more privileged/successful than whites in many categories, including things like average income and education levels. This is conveniently ignored when the term is used.

Second, the term ignores that there are many different racial groups in the U.S. with varying levels of disadvantage. For example, black people and Hispanic people are both underprivileged relative to whites, but in a city with just those two groups, there will still be still be a hierarchy among which of those groups is more disadvantaged. What term describes that disparity?

The term should honestly be "minority disadvantage," with careful distinction made to the fact that every minority group is disadvantaged in different ways. And societal disadvantage should also stop being preached as something specific to race, as there are many other attributes that create relative privileges and disadvantages among groups of people (e.g. height, intelligence, wealth, etc.).

The new hotness is to claim Asians benefit from white privilege through "white adjacency."

Well they aren't voting for liberals who keep telling them they are a piece of shit for being white so no they are not voting against their better interest.

Before 1964 literally all white people in the US were legally elevated above all persons of color. To think that centuries of unchecked social, political and economic hegemony has no lingering effects on society at large to this day is like being an ostrich with your head in the sand. This isn't a videogame where the old save was wiped clean and everybody starts off fresh.
