I've read the books and really liked them, but I don't like to watch films/series when there's lots of hype around it for some reason.

It's still one of the better shows available even if they screwed the pooch when they ran out of official book stuff to adapt.

Even during the amazing seasons of GoT the book worms would tell me how much better the books were. Much more detail.

So I imagine the ending in the books will be an improvement to shows.

If you read the books, youll probably enjoy some parts of the show and not like others.

Most of the characters are perfectly cast which is nice. But youll probably feel the show is a bit rushed.

Its up to you; if you really like the books go for it. The ending is pretty bad though so be prepared

the actual ending is not that bad. it's just that they rushed to it. supposedly rumor is that the books will end the same way the show did. but the books will flesh it out and take longer to get to that ending so it makes more sense. but Martin told them how to end it.

Watch up until the end of season 6. after that stop.

Everyone has a different view on what's good and what isn't. Even if the final series is meh that doesn't mean the rest are. It's worth a shot, watch the first series and see if you want to carry on. I'd wager most who like these TV series that become popular have never even read the books in their life however I'd imagine the books are better as that always seems to be the case.

Yes, but a lot of butthurt people will say no or say only up to (insert season here) and then quit. I enjoyed it.

They added original stuff in the early seasons that was good too

Like the interactions between Tywin Lannister and Arya, that all came from the show writers

GRRM wanted them to do 10 seasons though and that probably would have told a better story.
