...I'm waiting on a sale". Or better yet, people that whine and complain about how long a game takes to go on sale?

Idk why it irks me so much, but goddamn, either pony up the extra bit of cash, or shut up and wait. You're not special, why do you "deserve" to pay less for something that others are paying a set amount for? If you want to pay less, then wait and get it after most real fans have already had theirs (then bitch about it, judging from most Switch players).

Ugh.

I'd understand TC's point if it was about a sale up to 25%, but there's quite a few 50-90% reductions out there (yes, including legit ones if you regularly check the price of a game/product you really want). That does make a difference.

Fair point, but I'm referring to months or even a couple years after release.

Again, fair point. But at that point, it's likely been out for quite a while to get that large of a discount, so do they really want it that bad?

Also, again, if people want to wait, more power to them. But complaining about your wait just makes you look stupid imo.

I don't mind people waiting for a sale

I do mind people acting like it's the only way to fly and people who buy new games deserve any shortcomings

For instance

I've waited 4 fucking years for Persona 5

Did anyone really think I would wait any longer just to save a few bucks

I think games should be worth more than $60 to begin with, so yeah people who wait on sales don't really like supporting their developers I guess. On top of giving devs less money, they're also giving them money later than earlier, which matters for companies who need more immediate capital

It costs $10-13 to see a movie or buy an album. There's no way a game that has all that and significantly more with interactivity and gameplay development to be only worth 6 times a movie.

You can play an RPG for like 60 hours and pay only 6 times more than a movie that's 1 hr 30 min long.

Tradition has long devalued video games. Obviously pricing doesn't really work that way where quantity doesn't directly multiply the price in the same exact manner. But $60 is underpriced, and sales only devalue games further. The industry could've supported a multitude of smaller studios making bigger-than-indie games like in the golden ages of PS2/GC, but the cost of development only shot up while game prices stayed relatively the same.

It's like people supporting giant corporations over mom-and-pops

I would accept a rise in price for games if that means greedy and amoral corporations would stop carving the games up to sell one bit as day one dlc, one bit as bonus dlc even though 20 years ago it was part of the full game, would stop putting systems in the games to make you keep coming back every day to increase the chances of you spending money, etc. Basically if they would stop the thousands of greedy monetarization tactics they currently have going and the next thousand they're getting ready to implement.

That will literally never happen though, so the very concept of rewarding said corporations with extra money for the base product is insane and the definition of shilling.

I'd never even thought about it, but yeah, I'd be willing to pay $100-$120 for a new game if there were a guarantee of worthwhile expansions/DLC to be added over time.

I get tons of flak or this, but I rather like DLC when it's done correctly. It's a great way to add longevity to a game, or to bring me back to a game I'd previously finished/dropped. Unfortunately this is done correctly <10% of the time, and it's seemingly getting worse.

Yeah modern DLC tends to be stuff that should have been in the base game.

Or pointless skins or some shitty overpriced dungeon.

I don't really care if people wait for a sale. I can't blame them. Some games you can see a mile away that there'll be an ultimate edition next year for $40.

Very few games don't drop in price. I mostly hear complaints about no price drop with Nintendo products.

I couldn't tell you the last time I bought a game that wasn't on sale. I don't own any next-gen systems, and I only play on the computer. I love older games --- so why not wait until they're on sale? I usually buy enough during one Steam sale to last me an entire year.. Games with a ton of replay.

Maybe if games didn't go on massive sales all the time that these complaints would be warranted. As is, there is a very high chance that even AAA titles will be discounted by 50% or more 6-12 months after release. Blame Sony and game developers for conditioning gamers that such sales will be inevitable within a short time frame.

Now see that's just super short sighted. If you wanna do it that way, mp2u but people who don't aren't exclusively bad with money. The $40-50 I save by being patient is $40-50 more for the downpayment on the next house, or emergency savings, or the Roth IRA, or Baby DevsBro's college fund, or a vacation, or ministries, or any number of miscellaneous things we're saving for. There's no way $60 for a single game can be justified if you're on a budget. That's food on the table and gas in the tank. $15 on the other hand when it goes on sale isn't a big deal.

That depends on the game, though. If it's a game you can expect to get several hundred hours out of then it's a reasonable buy. But buying a game, playing it for only a little while, and then moving on to the next one? That's a waste. Hell, I've played Skyrim for close to three hundred hours and I've never beaten the main quest. Buying a game that "allows" you to save on other entertainment expenses is worth the money in my opinion..
