I want to say 6. Ensemble cast and the floating continent would make a good end to a first season. If you want to make it a two season thing.

I'd say X because I think it would fit quite well into an episode structure.

Ep 4: Kilika and road to Luca Ep 5: Luca and Blitzball Ep 6: Auron and Road to Mi'ihen Ep 7: Operation Mi'ihen Ep 8: Aftermath and Djose Ep 9: Ride Ze Shupuff Ep 10: Guadosalam (SP) EP 11: Thunder Plains with Yuna's choice Ep 12: Ice Temple Ep 13: Seymour and ends in Bikinal Ep 14: Home Ep 15: Wedding Crashers Ep 16: The escape and kissy Ep 17: Calm lands and Lulu's failur Ep 18: Gagazet and Kimarhi Ep 19: Road to Zanarkand Ep 20: Final Aeon Ep 21: The fuck do we do know Ep 22 (Feature length): Fighting Sin/BFA/YY. So 24 episodes counting 2 parters. I think it splits nicely. VII is easily adaptable into an episodic structure and there are countless O_O moments that would translate exceptionally well to cinema.
