Huge fan of DBZ, amazing series. I've seen a couple clips of Super, and it just seems eh... The artwork, and music. I don't know man, is it any good?

It's a fun watch but completely shits on everything the Dragon Ball universe made over the years. Even GT feels more cannon (and is better) than it.

I've been following the dub on Toonami (which is approaching the Tournament Of Power arc soon, the subbed version has finished airing) and it's been fun. It's certainly not as good as its predecessor, but I've still found it mostly enjoyable. IMO you're better off watching the movie versions of the first two arcs (the Beerus and Resurrection of Frieza movies) rather than the TV versions, which will save you some time early on and get you to the new and good stuff.

The new animation style is kinda shitty.

The fight scenes usually arent that great either.

DBZ didnt have great animation but it was from the 80s/90s. They went cheap with Super and it shows.

I thought the middle portion of the series was done pretty well, and IMO the Goku Black arc is the best I've seen out of Super so far.

But I agree, it's obvious that Toei went cheap at the beginning because they had already animated those first two arcs in the movies, and (from what I've seen and heard) they went cheap for the last part of the series because they started siphoning money from Super's budget for their big 15th anniversary Precure project.

Same. The Tournament hasn't started yet on Toonami, but should be starting soon and then the series will practically be over. But yeah, I've watched it and quite enjoyed it.

sequel to DBZ basically. it erases Dragonball GT in the canon, and takes it's place. it takes place after the Buu arc

It hasn't really erased anything from GT aside from some time placement issues. Other than that, it all takes place before the last episode of DBZ.

Hoping the return of Super or whatever it will be called moves beyond that and truly erases it.

It would take some serious, serious retcon's to make GT plausible and have super exist at the same time. There are quite a few things that, if they exist in the same universe, make either no sense or are down right contradictory.

Anyone that says Super shits on previous Dragon Ball is blinded by nostalgia. Dragon Ball has always been a fucking mess of a franchise. From day one its always been a big dumb show that you have to shut your brain off to fully enjoy. Dragon Ball has never been deep or thought provoking in anyway, and Super is no different.

My only recommendation is to skip the first two parts by watching the movies instead.

Can you list some stuff? It's not like Goku revealed his power in the last episode, so the Blue stuff shouldn't be an issue. Beerus not being there should also not be an issue and neither should Uub and his potential.

The first half of the show is poorly animated and absolute shit.

The final arc (basically the whole second half of the show) is actually well drawn and amazing. Its almost on par with the best arcs in DBZ.

Skip all the first half filler and suffer through some bullshit and the payoff is worth it.

1) SSG, SSB, SSBE, SSBKKx20, Omen and MUI are never mentioned or exist. Besides the fact that it makes 0 sense that they would just never use them again, UI for Goku seems to be uncontrollable for the time being. Baby or Omega would have had UI kick in at some point if they co-exist. Vegeta would have used SSBE against super 17 at the bare minimum instead of regular SSJ/2. Baby would have used Blue if he had access to it.
2) Beerus and Whis just never coming around again, especially considering Beerus was babysitting bulla makes 0 sense but can be wrote to happen. You think that since they discovered the blackstar dragonballs they would ask Whis to help with the super dragon balls to undo the damage done. Goku would have also asked Whis to help train both him and UUB.
3) Shin and Kibito have demerged. In GT they are still merged.
4) Freeza is still alive at the "Current" End of Super. He is dead in GT and he is not in his own personal hell like Super but in regular GT hell.
5) Super 17 doesn't take any retconning to actually happen. I'll agree.
6) Gohan regains his fighting spirit by the end of the TOP and regains his mystic form. This could be explained away but would be awful story writing once again.
7) It's been proven that Super Goku is much stronger than GT Goku. He would have trained for upwards of 10 to 15 consecutive years and somehow got significantly weaker.

Those are the major ones that come to mind but it all boils down to a mind wipe happens between the end of super and EoZ and makes the last thing everyone remembers the Majin Buu Arc to make GT plausible. I like the idea that GT is just an alternate timeline. Valid in it's own right and lets both co-exist. for all that I don't like about GT, Omega Shenron was fantastic and was a fitting end for the series.

If you want to get into it, watch Battle of Gods and Resurrection of F and start watching Super from the two universes tournament ark.
Black's ark is good but the end is a mess and sort of ruins the whole thing imo.
The tournament of power is half filler, but once it gets going, it really gets going.

The voice acting from Trunks and Zamasu in the arc's climax was great, Trunks's frustration and rage, Zamasu's arrogance and insanity, that was good shit.

If you're not a huge weeb who cares about power levels, it's the best series since Dragon Ball.
