they did a study on it, and didn't Judas have to point out Jesus to the people arresting him? If he was so different then he wouldn't have been pointed out as anyone could have identified him

IMO theres plenty of evidences to suggest that he isn't the white dude with long hair and blue eyes people think he is but as an agnostic it doesn't really bother me much. I acknowledge he exists but the religion stuff i don't vibe with

Ummm...actually it was more like people just use that image cause it was by one of the greatest and most legendary artists of all time, and there were no other actual images of him. Just ham fist everything into racist white people though ignoring that image is also used in the middle east.

Which artist are you talking about? Because there aren't any Christian depictions of Jesus as dark-skinned. It's pretty obvious that they made him white to make him relatable to the people who practiced the religion. It isn't odd to design a character to connect with people. Like it or not, skin color has been considered a barrier to connecting with a character. Even in modern times, some people still freak out about how they can't relate to someone who doesn't look like them.

Humanity wasn't far removed from shit like Greek mythology in the early centuries AD, so of course the poor common man would take the word of the religious elite on what their deity looked like in human form. Education wasn't exactly widespread.

in terms of the masses, who didn't control the look, it was easy for them to believe the lie cause they didn't have any other images of him. and also, keep in mind that centuries ago, people might go years or their whole life not seeing a foreigner. and maybe they just ignorantly think the whole world looks like them. or they just didn't think about it. I think modern people think more about things cause we have more free time. ancient people would just accept things at face value and move on

I would say it's because most North Americans and Europeans are white, their depictions of Jesus would reflect themselves as being in the image of their Creator. There are plenty of images of Jesus being other than white.

Interesting. I did not know that. I think Islam does acknowledge Jesus as a real person and a bringer of Holy knowledge, but he's not the son of God, much like Judaism. I didn't know Jesus has his own place in Islamic apocalypse prophecy

Christianity spread through Europe and eventually to places like the US, so nobody should be surprised that artists and preachers would have appropriated him to represent their own interests. We dont even know if he truly existed and there arent any definitive descriptions anyway, so you can picture him however you want.
