Less than 5%, maybe even less than 1% of female public restrooms have pads or tampons for purchase or free. So when you say that people need them, what are you talking about? When you say some trans person may benefit, the cost is almost certainly more than the benefit, and you're not fulfilling any need, so what are you doing?

Signaling a virtue. You're signaling to them that you care. I honestly think that's pretty worthless but I said it's a harmless virtue signal which it is. But don't lie to yourself and pretend you're solving a problem that existed for them. It didn't and it doesn't.

They don't want trans men in men's bathrooms because they have female genitalia and therefore belong in female bathrooms

But they also don't want trans people in female bathrooms either because they're scared of all the rape that's gonna happen. If it's a FTM they're scared of a testosterone freak overpowering a woman, and if it's a MTF they're scared of a testosterone freak pretending to be a woman

In short they just don't want trans people period, so any argument to fit that premise will do.

Well, it's an easy implementation that doesn't solve a problem. So yes, in this case I wouldn't consider it an action that helps them. It helps the straight people who installed it WAY more, because they can prove how much they care.
