i only see a problem with collector's editions if the package includes something that affects gameplay. most of the time it's just a statue or a mug or something like that and i have no problem with it.

see Soul Calibur VI where Cassandra, a character in the series since II, was omitted from the base game and is rumored to be the 3rd DLC character ($6)

Before the days of paid DLC, characters and costumes and stuff were unlockable in-game. Nowadays they're behind a paywall.

Stuff that should and always has been free is now paid. We're getting less than we used to

Why have costs been rising when developing games has never been easier? The PS2 and PS3 had proprietary hardware and were hard to develop games for. That didn't stop developers, and they even released some games new for $40. The PS4 and Xbox One are basically just PCs. If you make a game for one, you can port it to the other two platforms for more profit without much trouble.

It's like if every pizza place decided to start charging $30 for one pizza because "if people want it, they'll pay it." And then I don't get to order pizza anymore, but since a couple of rich guys are still buying it, the price never comes back down.

games are rarely incomplete, though it does happen in rare cases. but just because a game has bonus content it doesn't mean the game is incomplete without it, period.

how was it incomplete? never played it

extra characters or postscript dlc is never more than bonus content because the game could have existed without those things and still be a complete game

edit: although didn't that game Asura's Wrath make the literal ending DLC? that's one of those rare cases
