This is just another Trump publicity stunt. He'll try to retract the ban in a couple weeks under pressure from the far-right NRA members.

Its being challenged already and rightfully so.

Can anyone whos against bump stock ownership state why this is a good idea with something other than lol trigger the Trumpists/gun owners because it really isnt going to do anything. I find it concerning youre alright with people becoming felons for owning a device that has been used one time in a mass shooting all because no one should own that that! and partisan hackery.

I do think it's funny that after all the fear mongering about gun grabbing during Obama's presidency that the closest we've gotten to an actual gun grab is from Trump's presidency.

But I can't really say I have an opinion on bump stocks.

those who possess bump stocks will get 90 days to turn them in from the date the rule is published in the federal register.

Yeah.... that's not gonna happen... It's extremely naive to even try and write that into law knowing that absolutely nobody that owns one of these are going to willingly turn them in without financial compensation.

I agree 100% with banning them though, no good reason for a civvy to own one. I don't agree with thinking they can take the ones that are already in circulation though based on principle.

I think the point is if they find you in possession of one you will be charged. They know people aren't going to turn them in. But there's no real way of knowing which ones were already in circulation and which ones were bought after the cutoff

A lot of self-proclaimed "conservative/NRA/gun rights" apologists are gonna excuse Trump's leftist gun grabbing on the basis of him having an R next to his political affiliation.
in a lot of circles im seeing most are pretty much done with him and the republican party. i seriously doubt theyll vote D, but maybe if more stop voting republican itll make the right rethink some things or push through an actual viable third party.

They literally didn't ban any guns.
its more that the ATF was forced to redefine something that already had a definition (semi-automatic assault weapons anyone?) and have said explicitly that bumpstocks wernt part of it in order to now turn hundreds of thousands of people in to criminals. all for a device thats literally a $20 piece of plastic that you can remove from the gun and still have the gun function that can be mimicked by your finger and a whole host of other ways.

this whole thing is so stupid. this isnt going to garner any favors on the left or make them back off on gun control, but it WILL make some of those on the right tell you to fuck off and not vote for you. trump isnt winning anyone over on any side with this.

most of the actual big gun control bills were on republicans watches. 2A poeple are alone and always have been. if anything they tend to get complacent with a republican in office and this shit happens as a result. obama couldnt pass anything big (despite talking it about it every other week, tho he did pass a whole host of small stuff that most didnt realize) because pretty much the entire 2A community was on the defensive. damned if you do damned if you dont.

Going to be interesting.

Whats funny is Obama actually passed at least one piece of pro gun legislation (made it legal to carry in national parks).

Also found this funny:

Well... this should be legislation instead of an executive fiat.

They're also challenging Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker's authority to issue regulations without being nominated to the role and confirmed by the Senate or by operation of law.

I can't remember what the other one was, but this is at least the second lawsuit I've heard using this as an argument.
