It's not so much that she's doing it (it's fucking Christmas, doesn't everyone take time off?) it's how she's going about it

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who's about to become the youngest Congresswoman ever this January, is taking some time for self-care. The Congresswoman-elect took to her Instagram stories on Monday to let her followers known she'd be starting a week of self-care, though she admitted she doesn't really know how to do that or what it entails.

After describing some of the self-care tips she's heard in the past (drink wine and watch Netflix, go to Cancun), she showed a photo of Amnesty International's signs for burning out, writing, "Self-care is important for activists because without we WILL burn out and walk away."

Like...it's just really unbecoming of her position to be acting like your typical basic bitch on Instagram.

It also doesn't help that calling it "self care" has basically become code for "being a lazy piece of shit" by most people who use it.

See, the thing is, she spent time campaigning, and there is setting everything up for when she takes office.

I get that there is actual work being done even before you take office.

But like someone else said, it's the way she's going about it. I'm sure almost *everyone* in politics is basically taking the next week off, and if they are not, they are taking it easy as hell.

Why is she bragging about this or acting like this is something special? Because she calls it "self care"? I wish she wouldn't, since the only people I know who use that term are people in the gig economy who tend to not work much anyways.

What a weird thing to hate someone for.

I think it's pretty funny.

It's so mundane though. Like I said, I took a week off between jobs. Xmas is on a Tuesday this year. She's functionally just taking 3 days off during a time of year where it's common for people to take time off because of family holiday gatherings. It's like saying the weather is funny when the weather is typical and common for the current time of year and local climate.
