The first one isn't always a date, it could be quite a few things, such as a business lunch, catching up with an old friend among other things I don't want to get into excessive detail here.

The second one could also have different reasons for it rather than just them being unfaithful to you.

I'll go with the first one, since my wife often meets with clients and they have lunch or drinks while they talk about the job details.

(She's a photographer and took photos for personal websites, magazines, music blogs, street photography, etc.)

Option 1 is driving toward a cliff at speed with a brick under the brake.

Option 2 is being launched off the cliff already.

Regardless of how a generation of children raised on the Internet might believe otherwise, the entire idea of society as a whole enforcing shared morality and norms on everyone (and using guilt, shame, ostracism, or outright emotional, mental, or even physical abuse to enforce it) exists for a reason, and it's hard-wired deep into human behavioral instincts. It's basically how we've socialized children into society for thousands of years, and how we tend to maintain society as a whole. If you don't know, don't look it up.

Basically people try to put themselves in as much pain as possible and record it for other people to watch, often resulting in permanent damage to genitalia and other parts of their body.
