I never understood why "realism" in gaming only seems to matter to people when it's about black people or women being in a game.

No one cares about realism when everyone has automatic weapons, things are exploding, armies charge across open fields. Soldiers run off by themselves and take out strongholds. People get shot, go "ow" and bandage themselves then get up and fight on.

Hell if you want real World War 1 realism then the video game (on the western Front at least) would be sitting in a trench in the cold wet mud in boredom, hunger and fear until one day an artillery shell hits you. (which killed like 80+% of casualities on the western front)

Then even if you survive you die of Spanish Flu.

No one will buy that game so they jazz it up with unrealistic nonsense. But the line is drawn at tits?

My opinion on this is the same as it was:

If the game was advertised as historically accurate, then the complaining is justified.

If the game was advertised as historical fantasy, then it's not a big deal.

Beyond that, I haven't really kept up with it beyond thinking it's funny that the response from Dice was "don't like it, don't buy it" and then hearing that relatively few were buying it and they had to give it a sharp discount to try to make some sales.

If they want to include women in their game, that's fine. It's their game. However, I dont think you're going to get many women interested in a WW2 shooter regardless.

Character customization is a big part of FPS games these days and franchises like COD and BF can't just stick to the same setting. I think they'll take the trade-off. Most people aren't playing multiplayer games to be realistic. Otherwise why stop there? Why not remove fun gametypes like capture the flag or team deathmatch as well?

Nothing says immersion like being shot sixteen times and recovering your health by kneeling for cover for a few seconds.

They're power fantasies, getting ticked at women in power fantasies is just dumb. You might have a point about a strictly realistic wartime shooter where you have one shot one kill mechanics and you can't go in guns a' blazing, not in a Rambo simulator.

I know it's not progressives complaining about it, they're applauding the cane and eyerolling at the complainers.

Just because you don't like them doesn't diminish that others do, and some of the entries (specifically MoH) have been praised for authentically recreating the experience. D Day on MoH still wows me to this day, that was a good case for games as art.
