Take a look at some of Hulus shows, like Fugget About It or The Awesomes, and I bring them up not because Ive seen the entirety of both shows and can offer a nice, lengthy criticism of both, but because Ive seen their posters and watched, like, 3 minutes of each show, and came away wondering how any business could ever allow anything so lazily animated to air internationally.
Im sure none of these artists want to draw this shit, and Im definitely sure nobody wants to see them, so why did either of these shows go on for more than one season. Why are we limiting ourselves to mediocre animation and subpar, tepid humor, when I can just go on YouTube, click on literally any amateur comedy writers channel that has subpar lighting/staging/costuming/whatever, and STILL agent a chuckle out because theres more effort put into their $10 budget production than a several thousand dollar show that has a staffed writers room, several editors, and actual, trained script supervisors who are supposed to slap these lame ass screenplays out of the writers hands, and then slap the writer and laugh them out of the room. Why do any of these things get funded when we have shit like Bojack Horseman, which continuously raises the bar when it comes to pure storytelling skill? --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

Its difficult to have a show that has a detailed art style (OG Thundercats, Castlevania anime, etc...) because animating such highly detailed character designs takes a LOT of work. Theres a reason acclaimed studios like UFOtable went and simplified the clothing on Tales of Zestirias characters.
Moreover, shows with simpler designs like Sun and Moon/Steven Universe/Konosuba have a LOT aid leeway when it comes to creative movement, and it always ups the comedy elements. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

But thats literally not what animation is. I dont understand your confusion here. You can have a very detailed design, but animating that design is a very different story because you have to draw that design over and over again for however many frames you need. OG Thundercats used comparatively few frames compared to Kill la Kill, which was super fun and inventive with its animation.
GanglyKhan posted... >KLK Can you imagine not understanding a joke? Nui was literally toying with everyone, so its supposed to look low effort. Really, I think this general attitude towards animation explains why people LOVE Castlevanias anime. Much work wasnt put into the action sequences, and if you REALLY pay attention, you can see dropped frames and very choppy animation all over the place. Its because the character designs are SO highly detailed, you can pause the screen at almost any moment, screen cap it, and then show it to any of your friends or your mom or something and say this show was beautifully made.
I dont think it is. It saddens me that the new season of Pokmon, or the very fluid style of Steven Universe gets shafted all the time because people want their anime to look like anime, and think THAT is good animation, when actual animation has smear frames and squash and stretch all over the place. Oh well, guess Ill be in the minority of people who actually like the work being put into newer cartoons. Or even fucking Ren and Stimpy, which famously had VERY varied facial expressions. But whatever. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!
