Can you tell me why Thor being so powerful isn't a political statement?

If Thor were the first member of his demographic to star in a movie, and was automatically better than everyone else, it would be.

But, as we've established, her power level isn't so freakishly above that of the other heroes as some of the early marketing might've suggested.

I disagree, Anakin Skywalker was shown as a genocidal man whose on choices lead him down this path. Kylo literally woke up to his uncle with his sword about ready to kill him. Kylo is basically Edward now from Twilight.

This is Grade A bullshit, you know it.

Throughout the course of the first six Star Wars movies, Anakin:

- Grew up under a life of slavery without a father figure and grew old enough to grow attached to his mother.
- Is treated like a ticking time bomb before he has a chance of becoming a Jedi.
- Finally finds a father figure and a mentor, but he gets slain in combat.
- As a result, he ends up being trained by a Jedi Knight with a stick up his ass who didn't even want him in the first place, resulting in Obi-Wan treating him like the stepson he never wanted.
- Has visions of his mother dying, before he finds his mother brutally beaten and raped, before she dies from her injuries. Keep in mind, he promised to free her, but couldn't because the Jedi Order kept him away.
- Falls in love, but has to keep his marriage a secret from the Jedi, meaning he can't even talk to them about his fears.
- Jedi Council give him barely any recognition and even imply distrust in him, even though he's a damn war hero and he's committed and loyal to them.
- Has visions of his pregnant wife dying, but is unable to do anything about it without betraying his Order.
- Has his faith in the Jedi Code utterly shattered when Mace Windu is about to execute an unarmed and weak (in his eyes) person in cold blood.
- Kills his pregnant wife in blind anger, before having all his limbs chopped off by his former best friend and being left to die.
- Has almost nothing left to live for and now he's in a state of constant pain, trapped in a life support suit, with the ONLY thing giving him even the slightest glimmer of hope is that he has a son that actually cares about him.

And this is all while Palpatine, the only person that Anakin can be upfront and honest with, is digging his teeth into him and slowly turning him against everything he believed in, making Anakin as much a victim of Palpatine's manipulations as anybody.

Everything about the entire Star Wars saga has built up Darth Vader to be a tragic villain. He's basically the space opera version of Othello.

I don't know where you're getting the idea that Anakin was always a genocidal man. The first time he commits an act of true genocide, you'd be hard-pressed to find somebody that doesn't at least understand it, given the circumstances.

Johnson promotes Kylo the equal footing as Rey while stripping away Finn's humanity and making the Poe .. well that is something for a new post. Rey spends a good deal about the moving longing and falling for Kylo this guy who is abusive to her , and kill Han. Kylo is Johnson's idea of what things should be like. Rey doesn't spend the movie "longing" for Kylo. That is 100% bullshit you're just making up.

Rey finds out that the reason Kylo is so fucked up is because he thinks his uncle tried to assassinate him and she sympathizes with him, so she spends the movie trying to turn him away from the dark side (you know, kinda like how Luke tried to do with his dad?).

Finn Backstory is as harsh has Kylo and he is not evil. In the last movie he makes the CHOICE to stand up evil. In this movie that is all forgotten and black man has to be shown to care. Beyond that look how Kylo healing process was treated compared to the Finns.

Kylo spends the vast majority of The Last Jedi having fairly civil conversations with Rey and trying to explain his point of view to her.

When they fought it was because they were on opposing sides of a war. Now, both are trying to get the other to join their team.

Tell me would have found it funny if Rey was beat up for two movies for comedy, tased as joke repeatedly, start falling around like got damn Jar Jar binks, failed at almost everything she tried to do, had to have simple things explained to her .

Kylo is a classic abuser. When she has all the power he uses force, when the power is more equal he uses other means. We can tell this after they beat the guards. The first thing the he does is tells he that no one loved her with her parents , then tries to get her to watch everyone else she new get blown up. Like I said before he is just as creepy as Edward.

uh, he's the first Norse superhero that marvel put onscreen. Why are they pushing that political agenda onto us? Why are they always inserting their politics into their movies?

Why didn't they work their way up for the power levels on Norse heroes? Why did they automatically jump to the strongest hero in the universe?

Why are you comparing Kylo to Edward when Edward was the hero of the story and not the villain?

I think the entire point of his character arc by the end is that redemption is something you need to want and do on your own. You can't rely on others doing it for you. But we'll see next year.

As for the comic relief it should be pretty obvious why slapstick comedy is usually saved for the heroes and not the villians.

Norse people haven't been marginalized or discriminated against. There's no political benefit to giving a Norse individual glass elevator treatment. I am pro inclusion, but I believe that you have to put forth the same effort and give the same consideration to making a member of a minority demographic or focus demographic as interesting as any other.

Since this is a Disney movie, I'll use Pocahontas as an example. Disney was proud of the fact that they were featuring their first ever Native American female lead. And nobody liked the movie because it had no plot and no substance. The talking lion movie made by the studio's b team became the classic of that year. And that's not because the protagonist they chose lacked potential or because audiences were prejudiced. It's because one film had effort and sincerity whereas the other was a bid for recognition.

They advertised that she would be the strongest character yet and that she'd move worlds. That has me thinking that they care more about being progressive than telling a good story. And that benefits no one.

But I retracted my complaint since she's apparently not getting any special treatment. In my absence, the MCU seems to have shifted to focusing on more godlike beings who can move stars and traverse dimensions.

....which is the turning point in the story where Kylo becomes clearly more villainous, and the point where Rey rejects him, and the music even takes a dark, villainous cue directly after he says it just to underline that fact.
