Sometimes it's nice to have a linear game, where you can't avoid obstacles or enemies. Plus, it's a lot simpler, and "purer".

I was thinking about it and I certainly feel like with newer technologies companies are making these games bigger, but I think we're at the point now where bigger doesn't mean better.

Think about how immersive GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas were. They didn't have the biggest maps, but they captured the time period, the essence of their settings so perfectly.

They didn't have fast travel but I didn't care because I didn't feel any pressure to fast travel and it didn't take half an hour to cross the map. Or when I did, like in San Andreas, I could do it with a plane from an airport and it was awesome.

Now the games are just too big, you spend half your time in menus fast traveling and looking at loading screens. That just means the map is too big. And then they add a bunch of dumb repetitive shit to the blank space because they realize it's too big.

We just need smaller open world games.
