Good point on Samus being strong.

I'd say her last strong game is MP2, whose critical reception was at least as good as MP1 (to this day I can't decide which one is my favorite). But then MP3 was... lackluster, Other M was complete dumpster fire, Federation Force was insulting and Samus Returns... exists? Cool remake of a NES game nobody cares about, I guess.

Yet in contests, Samus is still here, being the unbreakable gate to the N9 top tier. She beat Mega Man with Red on the poll, man. The same Mega Man who had just beaten Zard with Zero on the poll. She gives no fucks.

I have Crono winning the runback against Cloud and then going all the way to Link. That's my anti-cookie big bet. I gotta say, Samus vs Crono scares me more than anything. It scares me more than Mario vs Crono, because at least that has the rivarly thing. I feel like Samus could just suit up and blow him up like the contest fad he could be. Zelda, Sephiroth, Snake, Tifa? GTFO, if you are not named Mario or Link, you are not passing through. There is a Nintendo hierarchy here and Samus holds the undisputable #3.

Then again the point about people electing a hero to not get SFF'd again by Link in finals is good too. Hmm...

Oh you didn't know, The Show better call somebody!!!

Comparing the Geralt eight pack to Division 128 makes me realize that I had both of those 1 seeds losing in the first round in my brackets. Obviously, only one of those upsets panned out, but the fact that the whole pack looked really good makes my Auron > Simon Belmont division final actually seem respectable.

I don't think Zero Suit Samus would sabotage her the way it did back in 2006. It's seen 2 Smash games since with another one imminent, so there's been time for that look to set in with the general public, so it's not going to be a case of her not being recognizable as it was back in 06 when the look was only present in some Game Boy games and a footnote in a Brawl trailer.

I'm not entirely sure that the rally did much at all, given the registered/anonymous vote splits and percentage of raw votes that came from registered users. The match had 46.98% registered user votes, which is lower than the average match, but still within the realm of a normal non-rallied match. If the rally did bring in some extra votes, it couldn't have been more than 300 votes at the most.

I do suspect the Tifa rally during Luigi/Tifa actually had an effect because of the relatively large split of nearly 5.5% between registered and anonymous users. That 5.5% difference is up there with Zelda in round 1 and behind Pikachu (6.4% in both round 1 and 2) and D.Va (7.2% in round 1).

Luigi/Tifa had 47.21% registered users, but removing 300 anonymous votes from Tifa brings the registered/anonymous difference down to about 4% and changes the match to 47.88% registered users. I suspect the rally brought in somewhere between 300 to 500 votes for Tifa. Given the final margin of victory, I feel confident that the rally didn't change the winner and Tifa still would have won without the rally.

1. Vivi's boosted a lot. I mean, not since 2013, but 2010 and earlier it would've been like 60-40 Ganon.

2. Alucard is Star of the Contest and I doubt anyone takes that title from him. What a feel-good run.

3. Bowser>Kirby is a really silly result. Kirby has looked better than him for like, a decade, and especially this contest, but the Hierarchy rears its ugly head and...well. The fact that Bowser outperformed his previous performance is unexplainable. You guys offer some ideas (like the Bowser match pic advantage) but personally I think it's a very clear example of rSFF.

4. I made a half-serious post a few weeks about where I wondered exactly how much that picture of Zelda's butt circulating around the internet helped. What's that worth? 1% extra on Aeris?

6. I think Geralt had a bit of a bandwagon going into that match, but he definitely validated himself. Nice to see a western character do well.

7. Tifa looked extremely good in 2013. It's actually interesting to look at her contest history and see that she's basically never dropped in strength since 2005 or whenever she debuted. People were really surprised when she beat Luigi, but...she did it before!

8. Ryu~Amaterasu is such a weird result. Good job for Sephy, but that specific statistic is confusing.

9. Smash announcements are overrated for a lot of characters. I don't think it changed Ryu at all. Hot take: don't think it changed Cloud either.

10. Personal turd for me is Kingdom Hearts in general. They just looked real bad.

11. Heavily recommend Nier Automata.

I wasn't surprised that Kirby did so well on Guile. I knew Guile would be fairly weak based on the most recent Street Fighter II character poll where Ryu tripled Guile. I admit that Ryu could have applied some SFF on Guile in that poll, but Kirby's higher strength compared to Ryu should cancel that out.

I knew the board was overestimating Guile's strength in their Oracle picks. I put in a prediction of 73.59% and was off by just slightly less than 1% on that match.

12. Zen is User of the Contest, everything he's done is amazing.

13. I think the Noble Nine (Eight) overperform slightly on the newcomers. I don't think people will necessarily be hyped to vote for them, but they'll be fresh faces that people will be happy to see.

yoblazer, Geralt actually did get some rally attempts. The most notable attempt happened during Geralt/Auron, in which a topic reached number 5 on the Witcher subreddit page. I'm not sure it had much of an effect despite getting good visibility. I posted about this right here:

I don't buy the idea that Zelda is artificially boosted because Link isn't in the main bracket at all. She's just stronger now.
