Bought the Tricentennial Edition for 80 at launch, even though I didn't think the extra price was worth the content you got, because I really like Fallout. Saw it on sale yesterday for 45. Eight days, man. Fuck me.

That's because it AINT a AAA game. Come on now, why are you people assigning that to any new game that comes out of a major studio. If they come out with BS games then they should be given appropriate labels like C, D and F games.

And you don't let the SELLERS/marketers tell you what is or isn't a AAA game. They can claim big budgets and high production values all they want. If their end product is a POS then it's a POS game, and buyers and reviewers are supposed to label it as such. And I applaud that GameStop customer for showing them just how ****** their game really is even though his conduct was disorderly.

Todd Coward was pretty open about just how much time and resources were being put into 76. In fact, I believe his exact quote was this was was their biggest game to date.

The letter A is supposed to imply high quality. AAA even more so. Right now Fallout 76 is performing like a shovelware game which is the opposite of AAA.

Fallout76 is probably going to turn out to be the video game version of Waterworld. Massive budget but sucky game. Yeah it'll still have some fans and be somewhat profitable in the end.

You can tell they're panicking to recoup their costs right now though. Their fault for making a bad game. Maybe some patches, game updates, enhanced edition/DLC could pretty it up a bit.

But yeah my roommate has been playing it and having a lot of fun (stopped his RDR2 play for it). No one I know complaining about it has actually played it.

I think my favorite detail is that they literally copied and pasted the scripting for the Skyrim dragons to the big bat monsters that are the game's biggest threat.

I don't mean they're almost the same thing, I mean that it's the same code on a different model.

Fallout 76 doesn't have NPCs. There are vendor robots, but every time I've been told to find an actual person so far, all I've found is their corpse.

I will say, I am having fun playing with my friends, but this is still a bad Fallout game. All of the lore is presented through lengthy audio logs, which the single player games did plenty, but in multiplayer, I can't exactly say 'hey, everyone stop talking and playing for three minutes while I listen to this and find out this corpse's backstory'. Especially since you pick up holotapes every ten minutes or so.

Also, I'm not exactly sure why Fallout 76 has the gaming public's ire? It just looks... dull. It's like a Fallout 4 mod that someone is asking a lot of money for. I mean, I was surprised that Bethesda said "we're going to release a Rust/ARK game" and then didn't put the resources behind it like you assume a company that routinely puts out big open world RPGs that sell 20+ million copies would, but that's about the extent of how much I think about it. I guess that's why I'll never make it in the Youtube outrage video essay world.

I have 76 on PC. I haven't really experienced any game-breaking bugs or anything like that. I just love the fallout world and exploring and the map is really nice and has a lot of different biomes to explore. The whole issue about 'no NPCs' doesn't really bother me as most NPCs in other Fallout games other than quest givers are boring as hell. Even most quest NPCs or even companions get boring once you exhaust their dialogue. After that its just 'hey, hi, what do you want, hey, hi, what do you want' forever.

At least on PC you can mod the game into something completely different which is another huge draw for me and Bethesda RPGs. Eventually the mod scene will catch up with 76 and the game will start to change for the better.

You know what every game on that list (except possibly Godzilla) shares? Extremely troubled development history. I wonder if Fallout 76 has the same and we'll see a Schreier article about it in the next few months. I hope it wasn't Bethesda's intention to put out a game in this state!

Either way I think people are so pissed because it's a major developer and publisher who have been on borrowed time a bit with regards to quality control, using a beloved franchise to put out a bad game that also shows that they have learned nothing. I also think some feel they were mis-sold the game based on E3 and it's hard to blame them, that presentation was weird.

I think a big part of the reaction to 76 being so busted is that they made a big hullabaloo that this was a huge engine overhaul that they WILL be using for ES6 and Starfield.

And beat for beat it's their most busted game to date.

The real hullabaloo is that under the hood this is a heavily bandaged version of the same engine they've been using for all their games since 2002. Sixteen years of bugs core to the engine that are still present in every new game they put out, just let that sink in.

Bugs that were never patched out of Fallout 4 that have been known about for years are in this game one to one. Fans fixed them in FO4 with mods...but those mods don't work here.

I think this game represents a level of complacency that is unacceptable. It's Telltale Games on a much larger scale.
