I, too, get angry over stuff that happened before I was born that didn't involve me whatsoever because, you know, I wasn't born yet. Cheers, my brother-in-unjustifiable-anger.

TC's overall attitude isn't one that generates any good feelings about how calm he might be, but there's nothing wrong with feeling sorrow about something that happened in the past. Being angry never helped anyone, but being upset and being sad are two sides of the same coin, both come from regret or disappointment that something did or didn't occur.

They never even taught us about Vietnam in high school, usually stopped a bit after WW2.

But the more I've read about it, the more impressed I am with the North Vietnamese.
They fought off two of the most powerful militaries in the world back to back (France, then US...the global super power), then defeated the Khmer Rouge and ended Pol Pot's reign of terror.
In all three cases, the other side was the aggressor. They did what few other colonial lands could manage and kicked out the invaders, then rescued Cambodia from the worst mass murderer since Stalin and hitler.

Vietnam in general is really impressive. They eventually forgave us (funny how in the media, it's portrayed as us forgiving them) and became democratic allies and a stable country all on their own initiative. It was touching, when McCain passed away, seeing the guy who oversaw his detainment eulogizing him.

It will change when the Vietnam Veterans all die off. Those men went through some horrible times, no one wants to tell them they watched their friends get killed and mutilated, or that they themselves killed and mutilated people, for a war that was wrong.

It will change when the Vietnam Veterans all die off. Those men went through some horrible times, no one wants to tell them they watched their friends get killed and mutilated, or that they themselves killed and mutilated people, for a war that was wrong.

And I understand, they were drafted and didn't want to be there, and they suffered horrible injuries and death themselves because it's war, and war is brutal.

But it's irritating when everything about the Vietnam war is from their perspective, and to sympathize with them, instead of the Vietnamese, who suffered far worse and were the ones being invaded by a much stronger military.

Basically all wars that America was involved with post '45 were unnecessary and screwed America in the long run.

History class was a long time ago so correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the south Vietnamese want our aid?

Even though my grandfather wasn't in a combat position he had his share or horrible stories. For example he got stabbed in the back by a kid trying to steal his watch and then witnessed the Vietnamese police shoot the kid in the head as he tried to run away. He claims he told the cop to give the family of the kid the watch as apparently the kid felt they needed it enough to risk getting killed (and did) over
