I'm hoping that wasn't meant to be an all-inclusive list.

Rouge like has more to do with mechanics than gameplay too.

Rouge? What? There is an RPG genre based on make up?

And just to be clear here I'm not trolling it's just I've never really played monster hunter, is it an RPG?

I guess I'll go with diablo of this list but honestly none of them really give me what I want when I'm looking for an rpg.

None of those are RPG types I particularly like, so any I guess.

High Tier:
Turn Based JRPGs (Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy before Xi)
Turn Based CRPGs (Divinity: Original Sin 2, I don't know any other examples)
Turn Based Strategy RPGs (e.g. Final Fantasy Tactics, Tactics Ogre)

Medium Tier:
Action CRPGs (Pillars of Eternity, Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale)
ARPGs (Path of Exile, Grim Dawn, Diablo)

Low Tier:
Action JRPGs (Tales of, Star Ocean, any other examples?)
WRPGs (Dark Souls, Elder Scrolls, Fallout 3 and newer, Divinity 2)

Good games in their own right: but not RPGs
Roguelikes
Roguelites
Monster Hunter

I really missed out on a lot of the classic Action CRPGs and Turn Based CRPGs, in the past couple of years they have become one of my favorite geners realizing they rival JRPGs in their depth, and all of them are superior to the modern action RPG like Dark Souls, Witcher, Skyrim, ect. which have very little depth.

That is a strategy rpg. So none of the 4 listed. I think the goal of this thread was to question people on 4 less popular sub genres.

I wouldn't want to play any of them these days, but if I absolutely had to, Diablo-style has at least been in SOME games I actually liked at some point in my life. Unlike the other three.

Just because they take place in real-time, doesn't mean they're at all action games.

Lets see a choice between 2 genres I'm not actually sure are rpgs and the "why is it good?" "It's hard" "Anything else?" "It's so hard it's awesome" and then you get to the only genre on the list that seems like a choice.

Arguably flawed because there were platformers before Mario.

The flip-side, of course, being that we used to call first-person shooters "Doom Clones" before we invented the term FPS, so there's ample precedent to use a term referring to the most popular game to codify a genre's style until a better, more generic term comes along to replace it. So the fact that "FPS" exists means we never need use a term like "Doom Clone" again (and "platformer" existing means we'd never need to call anything a "Mariolike". Whereas we're still using "Metroidvania" as a term and even "Diablo Clone" is still at least somewhat viable (though I prefer top-down hack-and-slash for that genre myself), because we have yet to come up with suitable genre names for those styles.

So if Roguelike or Soulsborn or Diablo Clone annoy you as terms, we'd need to come up with concise terms to replace them that conveys the same info.

What part?

Monster Hunter, Demon Souls, and Diablo are pretty well known games.

The rouge was supposed to be Rogue, and that contains games like FTL. It's probably the most niche set of games listed there.

That's a pretty fair and logical assessment. I waa kind of just going along with TC because it would be easy to devolve the topic into why Monster Hunter is definitely not an RPG and why Soulsborne could be considered one but at the same time not really.
