Mega Man X is my favorite MM game, but all my appreciation for that goes straight to Mega Man. MMX is kind of a loser sometimes, giving him a personality was a mistake.

In regards to MMX vs Captain John Price. That result is just strange no matter how you look at it. Even if MMX is weaker than Mega Man, that still puts John Price way higher than it feels like he should be.

He just had strength. Modern Warfare 2 was the reigning Game of the Year afterall.

the problem is that MMX also followed the Mega Man rule of 'nothing actually happens in the grand scheme of things' which is okay in a set of games where the plot is just an excuse to blow up robots

MMX plot (the series) is far more about Zero than X.

Zero in the Mega Man Zero series is way better than Zero in the MMX series, and Zero in the MMX series is pretty great. His design is worse though.

I have a friend who isn't a super big fan of MM, but he really likes Proto Man. But only because he really liked Proto Man in the 90s Mega Man cartoon series.

Strength comes from all different kinds of exposure, I guess.

Also great: The Nintendo Captain N comics, where you have things like the best version of Samus, and Piston Honda telling off the not-yakuza for trying to gank Mac.

X will continue to gain until 1am or so. Tifa should get some cuts overnight, but shouldnt come close to closing the gap. X continues to build a lead once morning comes.

These trends are so static and obvious I'm shocked that there are still people that don't get it after 15 years.

Zack was always a FRAUD. I mean, it's not like he was even the only FFVII character Mega Man faced that year; we saw that Zack wasn't that far ahead of that year's entry in the "let's throw FFVII characters at the wall to see what sticks" derby. Cid? Didn't stick. The next Character Battle after that one had nearly twice the field size, and Cid wasn't deemed worthy of a second chance. And he more or less went 63-37 with Mega Man, while "Zack Unfair" was held below 38.5%

I won't deny that Red has boosted since 2010, but don't try to convince me that 2010 Zack is anything special. He had a nice run in 2008 taking advantage of FF7 > FFnot7 SFF, and reached R2 in 2010 through the same theory. Couldn't pull it off in 2013 though.

If you go from just one contest to another contest, probably Zelda. Or Cloud/Sephiroth/Squall back in 2003. Pikachu had a more gradual climb.

I'd say Crash had a big jump. Although it's hard to tell whether he actually is a midcarder now or whether Red/Sora/Big Boss are complete frauds.

yeah but she might have been stronger this year than she was in 2017 because of Smash

so it's possible her gain wasn't just in a single year's time

A five years different is enough for a lot of changes to take place, but I don't think any of the characters have exhibited an enormous boost in strength like Zelda has. Everyone has had their ups and downs but so far she looks nuts.

The projections I ran had Squall being around Dante's level right now, and while Dante isn't as strong as he used to be either, Zelda still outperformed Ganondorf by 6% in those matches. That's a big deal!
