Amagon. What a pain in the ASS. Has anyone tried it? The game could not be more simple. Jump and shoot. Some enemies don't even move. Yet I can't get through it because the jumping is so flaky. Not sure how to explain it.

Air Fortress. A neat idea, rented it once and got pretty far. Trouble is the later stages are such a maze you almost need to find the exit before destroying the core so you don't get lost. Kinda like Descent.

Lots of good submissions in this thread.

My choice is Ghoul School. Rented it back in the early '90s, and the only places I have spotted it since then have had it under glass next to the likes of Dragon Warrior IV.

I still play that one. The cavalry marching uncontrolled to their deaths in the canyon is a top 5 meme for me.

After that...aren't 75% of NES games not talked about anymore?

I'll add Desert Commander.

The NES had over 2000 games on it, and that's only counting the officially licensed stuff. 75%? Probably closer to 95% (i.e. ~100 that do get recognized).

Wikipedia says 714.

there seem to be 2005 NES games listed here in gamefaqs's DB, but that must include famicom games, since it drops to about 1203 if I say region: north america. not sure what the remaining difference is composed of. probably partly duplicates, hardware, not sure what else.

Gamefaqs often has multiple entries for the same games

For example at the top of the list

1943: The Battle of Midway
1943: The Battle of Valhalla

These games link to the same page.

Yeah Gamefaqs doesn't sort by region. I use to play a lot of fan translated RPGs for the SNES so gamefaqs was helpful for those.

The Gamefaqs DB includes canceled, unreleased, and various renames/re-releases. I mean there are different entries for Mike Tyson's Punch Out and Punch Out, even though they are the same game, just with a redrawn final boss.

I believe the official number of released, licenced NES games in the NA region is around 700, and if you include un-licenced games it is close to 850.

People still definitely talk about Spy Hunter

Actually, Spy Hunter was the other game I thought about mentioning in my own topic. I assume that most people know about the arcade game, but I don't know how many know there was a NES version.

Anyway, it was okay, but it got old fast. Maybe I'd have said the same thing about the arcade version if I'd played it more.
