I never got the impression that people who like roguelikes and people who like phone games had any overlap. And it's set during a timeskip, so it's supposed to be canon? But I clearly see Diablo in the trailer, who's resurrected during the events of D3, and the characters are clearly the D3 characters, who were all newbie adventurers at the start.

I have never heard people call them roguelikes, though if you have permadeath on it's probably a fair comparison

Wikipedia lists it as "inspired by" roguelikes, so I guess it's in a hazy area.

I'm at BlizzCon. The disappointment was palpable.

The thing is that that even if we would accept a Diablo phone game when Diablo 4 anticipation is so strong....this doesn't actually look like a new game. It looks like Diablo 3 encounters with the Diablo 3 characters. These aren't even different classes. This doesn't look or feel like a new game.
