Theyre trying to build it up as this huge release but I havent seen nearly as much hype from the fans surrounding this game compared to 1. Im sure the sales will be fine and itll be a good game, on the other hand nothing Ive seen from it has really blown me away.

This tbh. It's one of the games, along with Crash Bandicoot: N Sane Trilogy, that convinced me to actually get a PS4 - over a year before it even came out (though Crash was closer).

i suspect it'll be the same with RDR2.

I honestly feel like it's too hyped. There are three factors that kill my interest;
- It's a prequel. I hate prequels.
- People's expectations are way, way too high.
- I'm tired of the 3D person open world adventure action game.
I'll probably play it eventually, but It's not something I feel like I'll have to rush out to buy.

Despite all the online whoring, Rockstar still delivered a solid single-player game in GTAV (aside from abandoning the promise of single-player DLC). Of course, that came before GTA Online took off.

If they fuck this up, I almost certianly won't be getting GTA6, though (or at least not until way after release when it's cheap).

Thats not Rockstars style. They release gameplay videos with narration. It helps maintain the secrecy behind their games.

People I know who don't even care about games are talking about RDR2 so I don't agree with this at all.

The only thing I haven't noticed are a lot of TV commercials for it, but that might be because I don't watch much TV anymore, and all my family watches are like TLC and E entertainment and they might just not be airing commercials a lot on those channels so I don't see them when I visit.

I do find it funny that I notice a lot of the gamers who are hating on RDR2 are the same people I saw praising AC Odyssey as being some amazing game. (not in this topic, in general)

It just makes me really sad when I see shit like that.

Ads on tv and other platforms probably won't drop until the day it comes out, or maybe a couple days before. The purpose of those ads is to reach an audience that aren't already aware of it, and that group isn't going to wait around for a week to buy something. It has to be "available now".

They don't need to target ads at people who are already aware of it, as those people willingly seek their commercials and other trailers out on their own.

Barely saw any advertising on it.

IIRC GTA V commercials didn't drop until after the release as well, or at least didn't drop heavy.

I don't know when exactly Rockstar started doing that, but that's become a thing they do now. Probably for the exact reasons listed before.

The lack of commercials before the release is actually indicative of just how hyped it is.

i paid $60 for gtav when it launched on 360, barely touched the multiplayer at all, and felt like i got my money worth.

tbh tho, i tried to play the campaign again a year or so ago on ps4 and couldnt really get into it.

I did too. That said, take two has been on a steady decline to EA levels of bullshit in the years since gtav released.

Their behavior in just the last couple years has killed my faith in them. Gtav had a fun single player, but gtao changed them, irrevocably. Its inevitable that it spills over. Maybe we'll be lucky and it wont be here. But it will happen, eventually.

I don't understand why people keep bringing up the online.

Who the fuck cares? Has nobody read anything about this game? It's clear as hell that they've spent a ridiculous amount of time and money on the single player, not the online.

Yeah, and even in GTAV, they still delivered a solid (if maybe not the best in the series - but let's face it, San Andreas is always going to be hard to top) single-player experience, despite the multiplayer whoring.

Now, to be fair, GTA:O wasn't a thing yet then. So it's a bit of a chance. But I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt, because they haven't let us down yet. If they do, GTAVI will not be a high priority for me.

And even then, I don't get the hate boner for GTA Online. Out of all the games with micro transactions it's actually the least offensive about it. At least they aren't random loot boxes and you know exactly what you're paying for. (and it isn't like there hasn't been a million exploits and glitches and modders that just give money away)

I could see people complaining that the entire game ended up being designed for griefers for the past two years, but the microtransactions? Come on, there are way worse out there.
