Do you like Roguelikes

This is pretty much the game that got most people into the genre. It used to be my favorite but I like Enter the Gungeon and Crypt of the Necrodancer a lot more now

I think you will, just about everybody thinks it's a great game, it's just been around for a while so people don't hype it as much.

Just run through it a lot at first, learn some power ups, tactics. There's risk and reward, figure out what works for you.

Once you get that beast combo of gear, don't get cocky about it. Still approach each area as if it will kill you.

Always go for treasure rooms (doors have gold frame and crown on the minimap). Don't both using a key on a shop unless you already got the treasure room and you have a load of money.

Fully explore all rooms early on so you get enough money, key, and bomb drops.

You are going to struggle a bit at first, but you will keep discovering new power-ups and soon you will be kicking the ass of the boss you once thought was hard.

Don't worry about the "git good" crowd, it's not that it's a hard game, it's just a game that you get better and better at with time. Everybody starts out as a scrub in BoI but most people get a feel relatively quickly.

Yeah these are key bits of advice. Always go for treasure rooms, shops can have a good item at 7(?) but usually the good item is 15 IIRC.

Focusing on dodging rather than damage helps a lot. Pretty much all bosses and enemies have a predictable pattern that isn't too hard to figure out.

If you want to get thicker into the weeds you can read a beginners guide online

But really you'll pick up much of what you need to know just by playing through a few times.

Don't use a key to go into the shop unless you have at least 15 cents at first.

Starting on the second floor, if you can beat the floor without taking red heart damage you'll have a chance to access a special room after you beat the boss. The items you get in these rooms can make or break a run.

Memorize enemy patterns and look up what the items you're getting do in a wiki, as the in game explanation are super poor and sometimes not intuitive at all.

Above all, learn to accept the fact that you're gonna die a lot in this game, you get better by playing and improving, or getting lucky with the items you're given. I'd recommend turning on the advanced hud so you can see your stats and how much each item improves them (and what they improve).

If you have any questions, feel free to hit me up. Isaac is one of my favorite games of all time.

When you have an active item (they show up in the upper left part of the screen , you use them by pressing the equivalent of L2 on the Switch) it refills their charge.

Another thing to note is that you should probably avoid the rooms that have spikes on the entrance as you're starting out, since more often than not you'll just end up taking damage and get nothing for it. Also, avoid the rooms with spikes in the middle until you know exactly what they do and what you can use them for (you'll basically be good at the game by this point, if you make it), since they are a huge risk with a not so great reward.

Put money in the donation machine in the shop if you are worried about dying. Game will unlock stuff and upgrade the shop as you feed it. And donation amounts roll over to other runs, which you can bomb to take some money back out.

I've never played Afterbirth, but I played the original for 119 hours according to Steam. I'll repeat what others have said about getting better at the game. I was by no means a master, but I went from consistently dying with good items before getting to the second "world" to regularly beating it with mostly whatever shit items they threw at me.

Just be warned that some items are almost assuredly a trap. I remember an dead cat item that gave you nine lives, but it set your health to one. It utterly ruined a pretty decent run.

One thing I don't think anyone has mentioned - assuming it's the same in Afterbirth - is that there are often secret rooms. You enter them by bombing the middle of the wall that's adjacent to that room. Secret rooms are typically bordered by three or four visible rooms. So a fairly reliable way of finding one is to wait until you've explored the entire map, then look to see if any empty spaces are next to three or four rooms. Then go bomb a wall in one of those rooms. Just be warned that secret rooms sometimes have a boss in them instead of goodies.

Dead cat is a good item imo. It doesnt remove non-red heart containers. So if you have a lot of those youre not really losing much.

Curse of the Tower and fucking Bobs Brain are what Id call trap items.

Welcome to the black hole that is Binding of Isaac. It is an amazing game and easily one of my top 3 favorites. It sucks the first few runs until you get the hang of it but after that you'll be doing great.

Basic tips:
There are bombable walls and hidden rooms
Once you get the hang of it do some of the "challenges" to new and powerful items
There are multiple characters you can play and each require different things to unlock them (most are pretty easy)
There is a treasure room on each floor until after you defeat the first "major boss." You'll know when you beat it.
This game has several stages to it. The first struggle for you will be to beat the first major boss. That unlocks some extra levels, then you have to beat the second major boss. That unlocks more. Etc.

Edit: Here is a link to the wiki. Can be good for learning what items do but it obviously contains spoilers as well.

Azazel is not as free as he used to be since he got nerfed after vanilla

Hes a short range character with wings. You can never really fix the range problem

Greed mode might be easier because you dont need to go damageless to get the devil room but idk

Hell yes it is, think I'm up to 500 hours played. Such a fun game, I love how some runs you just barely make it by with garbage items and then you get that one stroke of luck that turns it all around.

It's gonna be really hard to you for a while, but eventually you will win far more runs than you lose.

idk I think Greed mode might be harder for a new player than the regular game. You need to manage resources much more carefully
