single use pre packaged flu shots dont have the mercury metal preservative. and even the multi use vial form has so little that its not going to cause an issue. its not elemental mercury and you clear it within a week.

The type of mercury that has been used in vaccines, thimerosal, is different from the mercury you're thinking of, methylmercury, which is found in stuff like fish.

Thimerosal is broken down into ethylmercury, which is easily and quickly excreted from the body long before it can do harm. Methylmercury doesn't quite have that luxury, which is why pregnant women are recommended to limit fish intake as an example.

Vaccines are safe and effective.

Through the concept of herd immunity, if all those who can get a shot for a disease do, then those who cannot get the shot (weakened immune system, allergies, etc.) will be more protected because less people in general will get the disease and pass it on. It's still beneficial to get it.

The flu shot has consistently given me weird side effects and/or the flu every time I have received it. Every year I haven't got it, I don't get the flu. Anecdotal, sure, but eh.

I work in a hospital, and you would only be sick for about half a day afterwards. The flu shot triggers an immunity response. I don't advise getting it on an unseasonably warm day that's for damn sure.

It mostly depends on your age and occupation. If you're a teacher or a nurse or something then yes you get the flu shot. If you're 80 years old then yes you get the flu shot.

I get a flu shot every year because it's mandatory for my job. But the reasoning is so that I don't get the patients sick.

Oh right, I suppose I should get that. Kind of forgot this year because it's not as urgent for me as it was in years past

For someone that's 25 years old and healthy it would probably seem that way, but for someone with leukemia that's 75 years old the flu can royally fuck them up.

If most of us get the flu all it's going to be is that you feel like shit and lay around watching Netflix for a week or so. But if you're in a situation where you can carry the virus to someone who can't afford to get the flu, then yes you need to be immunized.

I've never bought into "herd immunity", and only get vaccines out of pure self-interest. Incidentally, I'm one of the last cycle of babies to have a smallpox vaccine scar.

When you get the flu, your immune system creates antibodies that will make it easier to fight it off when you come into contact with it again.

People who can't take a flu shot will have to take other pre-cautions. Don't go outside, don't be around others, wash hands, etc.
