Yes. I have loaned money to my mom, dad, grandma, and younger siblings. None of my other family has really asked me. We will buy each other drinks and food sometimes, though. That's the same with my friends. We usually never try to borrow money from each other. But we will treat each other to food and drinks a lot.

Once, just to keep a particularly nasty black sheep of the family away from me. If he thought it was a loan, he would run all the way to hell to keep from having to pay me back. Well, he ran all the way to a felony conviction, so there we go.

I know people always say avoid loaning to friends and family (Especially family) because it can ruin relationships. But I think it also depends on the people. I help my family and they help me when I need it. And even try to help when I don't. I've never had an issue with borrowing or loaning to the people I mentioned in my earlier post. And we communicate. Like when we will be able to pay it back. And if they only have a certain amount to pay back. Or if it will be late. Or what it is for. Or why they need it now. Stuff like that...

My rule of thumb is that I never loan money to friends or family unless I am confident that that money could disappear and not affect our relationship.

To family yes, but I give it with the expectation that I might not get it back. And I never give money I can't afford to lose.

I was naive enough once to give my mother a small loan since she wanted to return to school; imagine my surprise when she called and asked if she could spend the money on clothes instead (never realized she was so desperate for them since she never mentioned it before I sent the funds). While I didn't expect repayment, I did expect her to use it for the purpose she'd told me that she'd use it for; so I haven't loaned any more money to my family since, even though a couple of family members could've used it at the time. In fact one of them thanked me for not loaning them money because they didn't want to become dependent on the handout.

Nah. First off, I don't have enough money to loan large amounts, and if someone needed like $10, I'd just give it to them. But if they never payed me back I wouldn't let them have more money.

Only time i lent my parents money was when we went to go buy a dog, banks were closed and you could only withdraw a certain amount from the cash machine, so i got the rest, they paid me back the next day.

I lent my mom money a couple of times, it caused a pretty big strain on our relationship and I refused to lend her money again.

I would gladly lend money to my father because I know he would do everything in his power to pay me back, but I also know I would be the last person he would ask which is why he never has.

From time to time. I don't really hold out hope of getting it back, so I consider a gift until proven otherwise. Right now my wife and I are in a tough spot because her dad is basically homeless, so we've been helping him out here or there when we can.

No. For family, none of us has ever loaned or borrowed money from one another.

For friends, once.

My general rule for this is that any money that I'm willing to part with ends up as donation or charity. That means that I'd never want it back and will never ask the other person to repay it.

Yeah, just my siblings. If it's less than $50 or so I'll just give it to them. My brother and I share money often and use our cars as collateral
