A season near unanimously panned for its terrible writing won best drama. I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

I think you mean The Americans was robbed during its entire existence but I'm okay with saying any of the other more deserving shows were robbed. Except Stranger Things. Fuck season 2.

Westworld season 2 wasn't very good imo, but Thandie did some heavy lifting and deserved her award.

I love GoT like everyone else but yeah some ridiculous problems with the latest season should have kept the award out of reach

I feel like these awards are always super late. Didn't Dexter not win best actor until like the 6th or 7th season?

He never won an Emmy. Got nominated a bunch of times. John Lithgow won Best Guest Actor, but that's it for acting Emmy's.

He did get a Golden Globe that same year as John Lithgow, though.

I liked Stranger Things seasons 2 \_()_/

I also liked Game of Thrones season 7, season 5 is still the lowest point for the series, but yea it shouldn't have won last night

Makes perfect sense that Game of Thrones won last night given that it is currently the most-watched show on television.

game of thrones has won for seasons 5 and 7, easily two of its worst seasons, though i enjoyed the spectacle still and the field of fire was insane. feels especially incongruous since it didn't win in seasons 1-4, universally considered better. peter dinklage's awards also don't align with when he was doing his best work.

stranger things was mediocre in both S1 and S2. S2 is probably worse.

looking forward to watching S6 of the americans, even though i felt S5 was its weakest season.

Didn't even realize Game of Thrones won for the Dorne season as well. That's really sad. And season 5 of The Americans is very weak. Season 6 is fantastic with the last stretch of episodes being stellar.

The Emmys have a more traditional viewer-friendly attitude for the awards that kind of only recent moved towards more "obscure" shows winning major awards or especially being nominated due to the dilution of the TV market. But you go back just a little bit, and they do tend to award a lot of popular favorites consistently. It's not a criticism of their voters, just a general trend with the Emmys.

The Emmys are different from the Oscars and I think your comment was a little in bad faith.

Season 7 was great smh

also keep in mind Best Drama isn't solely dependent on the writing. That's why they have a best writing category. No show can touch Game of Thrones (especially last season) in terms of scale, thrill, and battle cinematography

That's fair. It does make sense in the context of how the Emmys has historically functioned.

While I don't necessarily agree with GoT winning the Emmy, I can totally see where it comes from. Every episode is still such an event, in-universe and outside of it.

Peter Dinklage picking up an acting award when he has done nothing of note post-season 4 is absurd, however.

There is more to acting than reading witty dialogue. I'd argue that he's done more acting post season 4.
