the combat does pick up once you get all the "art is off cooldown at the beginning of battle" skills, which to me is completely baffling that they weren't auto-unlocked at the start

the story never gets better, in fact it only gets worse

shit game tbh, if you aren't having fun don't bother continuing it. i forced myself to beat it and i have nothing but regret

Just got that. Pretty cool..game feels dumbed down to Chronicles.

Xenogears, Xenosaga, Xenoblade 1 are some of my fave games.

Xenoblade 2 I could not get into at all. Quit and traded it in about 40 hours in. 0 interest in the story or characters and combat was meh. Game was too busy too. Too much shit goin on in menus, combat screen, micromanaging, etc.

XC2 is a hit or miss. It's just not for some people.

That being said, I really started enjoying the game around the next titan. Right now you're pretty limited on what you can do, especially if you're playing as Rex.

Playing as Nia did make it more interesting for a bit. Switching between healing and attacking was fun for a while.

there's very little to enjoy, imo

combat is is dull as shit, just spam the same blade combos over and over on a bunch of damage sponge enemies, and unlike the first game movement in combat is stupidly punishing for some reason since you move like fucking molasses in battle

the blade system is gacha fucking garbage that has no place whatsoever in a full-priced single player game. the same goes for that mobile-tier mission table garbage. the field skills are just the absolute worst, they're basically HM's from pokemon except if there were like 30 of them and they varied in skill level. coupled with the utterly horrendous interface i honestly just stopped bothering with the shit because 90% of the time equipping my field skill just wasn't worth the effort for some shit accessory and core.crystal.

the story is just...bad. at its best it's generic shonen tripe, at its worst its embarrassing harem anime garbage. the lead characters (rex and pyra) are particularly terrible, and their voice actors....yikes. the ending to the game is also one of the worst i've seen in recent memory

the side quests are also terrible. the ones in the first game were infamously generic and volume-based, but i actually think they made it worse. the quests in chronicles 1 weren't good, but they at least had you doing things you were already going to be doing. the ones in 2 require you to go out of your way to do things that are just as mundane and tedious. and the worst thing is these never seem to fucking end. i can't count how many times i completed a side quest and went back to turn it in (yes, also something you have to do now) expecting it to complete and get a reward, only for there to be some inane follow-up quest instead. again, i just stopped bothering with the fucking things

oh and the character designs are hands-down the worst in any game i've ever played.

i'd hesitate to call it the worst JRPG i've ever played, but it's definitely the worst one i've played in the last 5 years. at least the music is good

What bugs me is no weapon drops, and armor visuals changing.

Loved getting cool armory in Chronicles even if the stats were bad Id stay with it.

Octopath worth checking out? The GameStop guy was trying to dissuade me from getting Xenoblade 2 :/ Shouldve listened.

yeah the lack of actual gear in xeno 2 really rubbed me the wrong way. partly because it prevented me from finding a way to not have to see their horrific looking characters

The story does kind of pick up near Chapter 8 but by then, you're at end game. It's still nothing to write home about.

SMTV, Metroid Prime 4, Grandia 1 and 2 Remaster are what Im looking forward to. My Switch is collecting dust atm

One element that I liked that the other Xenoblade games sort of downplayed were the geopolitics. The first two games were both everyone vs. the Mechon and the humans vs. the Ganglion for the most part. Each of the different countries take on foreign affairs because of the status of their titans in a way that sort of made sense.

Overall it's still the weakest of the 3 games personally, and it has some really dumb design decisions that make me not wanna get all the blades, but there's some neat bits every once in a while.
