Yeah I dont get it either. But Im a bit of a snob when it comes to collectibles. I prefer something really highly detailed and cool-looking. And something that actually looks like what its supposed to.

Always hated the deformed or chibi look.

I have no clue why people are so obsessed, but I can see why they would get ones for things they love.

I have a friend who spent thousands on those things. He would flip OUT over limited ones, despite having no interest in the source material.

He sold them a bit back, it was really fucking up his bank account.

Same, they look so bad for the majority of the figures. They only work on highly stylized things like Jake from Adventure Time, things that were already squishy and rounded.

Nendo or Figma is the much better choice for entry to mid-level collectibles.

Nendo are basically "Funko but good"

I imagine a lot of the people who like Funkos might not like something like Figma or Figuarts though.

I think a good part of it is they cater to so many licensed intellectual properties they overlap with almost every nerd fascination. Albeit, they also have funko figures for sports, but I'm a bobblehead guy myself.

Pop figures are for the poor. 1/8 PVC figures are for the average and 1/6-1/4 and larger resins are for the hard working people with monies.

Some look good, some look bad. The style didn't really appeal to me at first (mostly because they lack mouths), but eventually I found at least a few I liked (most of which had mouths).

Offhand, I have Rocksteady & Bebop, Killer Croc (Arkham version), Chernabog, Sharknado, Nosferatu, Smaug, Doctor Wily, Oogie Boogie, the Gentleman, and Cthulhu. There are more that I'd want, but I really try to limit myself because otherwise you have a ton of them.

tbh, I was surprised by some of my friends who really got into it and at least a few them did downsize their collections. They release too damn many per year so I can see people selling some, because otherwise you'd have mountains of them.

Nendos are usually at least 3-4x more expensive and often don't cover the same subject material.

You've vastly underestimated their variety. Funko probably releases more Nendos in a year than Ty released Beanie Babies. I think they do around a thousand different designs (including repaints) a year.

You're aware people that some of the people who collect Pop!s also collect stupidly expensive PVC figures and statues, right? It's not an either/or. Plus those other things take up more space and, quite honestly, I've never seen enough value in them. For instance, while I like the design of the Sideshow Sentinel, I can't see dropping $900 on one. Kinda the same with the Bowen Juggernaut (the good one, which runs for at least $400) or Bowen Wendigo (the full statue, not the shitty bust -- no idea how expensive *those* are now, although it was around $500 last I looked).

I would say there is more variety since beanie babies don't represent every license on the planet almost. Part of the appeal is that Funko makes Pops of so many damn characters at least some will be interesting to anyone if they don't mind how they look.

Probably the price of them. I personally don't care for them since they come across as low effort/detail bobble heads. But someone must be buying them.

When I first heard about it I went to a store to look at it and see what they had. It looked like it had all kinds of stuff from whatever TV show or Video game you can think of. I thought it would be cool to grab something Teen Titans related for my 8 year old cousin at the time as a birthday present.

But then I saw that it did.... nothing. It's just a figurine, waiting to collect dust. No kid would want that kind of toy.

I don't own any but I see the appeal.

While as mentioned above they are significantly more expensive than Funkos, I think as a collectible piece they serve the same role which is why I brought them up. I would personally rather have one nendo than four Funkos (though the price ratio gets fuzzy when you start looking at after market prices). But I guess some people might disagree. But I find with collectibles like that space becomes an issue surprisingly quickly.

Overlooking that toymakers *do* sell completely non-articulated figurines to kids, Funko Pop!s are more of a collectible for older groups. If they leave their box at all, it's to sit on a shelf or desk. However, usually people just stack them MiB on a shelf.

Nendos are more or less designed to be cross-compatible. Most faceplates fit most heads and the heads will fit any full-sized Nendo body.

Among other problems with your post, nobody is throwing out Pop!s and Nendos. They aren't plastic bags.
