Andy Roddick once got into what felt like a 5 minute argument with the official over a foot fault and while he got tagged for the foot fault, he didn't get any other penalty.

Foot faults are not allowed to be reviewed.

So what, there's plenty of examples of men getting called over the same thing. Most stop afterwards, she didn't. Not to mention I'm sure some women have gotten away with arguing too.

I saw the video last night and Serena definitely lost her cool. That being said, this isn't the first time this year that there's shown to be a difference in the way men and women are treated in tennis. They had a couple of issues with clothing over the past couple of months with Serena and another woman, and the men didn't get reprimanded for the same thing.

Most of the fines issued were for racquet violations - 14 men and five women.

She's a professional; she should know better than to throw a temper tantrum about losing to a better player and taking it out on the ref who is only doing his job. Do you think what she did was the right thing?

The fact that she was accusing the ref of being sexist... while her opponent was also female and thus was at the same advantage/disadvantage as her... meant that she had absolutely nothing substantial to complain about and the call the ref made was fair. She had no right to start calling him names and throwing her racket around like a child. This is something I'd expect out of watching a high school girl's tennis game, maybe, but even they are probably too mature to do something like that. It was super embarrassing and cringe-worthy to watch, not to mention disrespectful to her opponent. But none of that matters because I have low karma, eh? Fantastic argument, solid logic.

I'm not even fully on her side in this, but people really misconstrue the situation. You may argue that she's only making a big deal of it because she lost (which I would disagree with; knowing Serena, we'd be hearing plenty about this even if she came back and won), but her issue is over her perceived treatment vs the treatment of male players.

The same reason people misconstrue why players kneel (from disrespecting the troops to saying the players don't even know why they're kneeling.) It's because they don't want to actually address the issue at hand and want to be "right," even if what they're "right" about isn't the point of the initial argument.
