Here is Kaiser Wilhelm II

rBISvih

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilhelm_II,_German_Emperor

Kaiser Wilhelm II had no understanding of diplomacy and good manners. He said whatever he want whenever he wanted, regardless of how little sense it made.

His ridiculous off the cuff public declarations often isolated Germany. Reading them today, many of them sound like Trump tweets.

A famous example is the Daily Telegraph Affair (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daily_Telegraph_Affair). Here's what he said.

You English are mad, mad, mad as March hares. What has come over you that you are so completely given over to suspicions quite unworthy of a great nation?

He also forced Otto von Bismarck to resign. Yes, Bismarck, now known as a german national hero. Kaiser Wilhelm didn't like Bismarck's peaceful ways. He preferred something more aggressive. The consequences were not good. For example, from the Wikipedia entry:

He also launched Germany on a bellicose "New Course" in foreign affairs that culminated in his support for Austria-Hungary in the crisis of July 1914 that led in a matter of days to the First World War.

A lot of people have talked about the Trump - Kaiser Wilhelm parallels.

https://foreignpolicy.com/2017/10/12/the-donald-trump-kaiser-wilhelm-parallels-are-getting-scary/

https://www.newyorker.com/culture/culture-desk/what-happens-when-a-bad-tempered-distractible-doofus-runs-an-empire

https://global.handelsblatt.com/opinion/a-kaiser-in-the-white-house-794105

America has never had a leader quite like Donald Trump. One century ago, however, the Germans under Emperor Wilhelm II found out the hard way what can happen when a ruthless narcissist rises to the helm.

This is hilarious. Remember Trump's nicknames?

https://www.newyorker.com/culture/culture-desk/what-happens-when-a-bad-tempered-distractible-doofus-runs-an-empire

One of the few things that Kaiser Wilhelm II, who ruled Germany from 1888 to 1918, had a talent for was causing outrage. A particular specialty was insulting other monarchs. He called the diminutive King Victor Emmanuel III of Italy the dwarf in front of the kings own entourage. He called Prince (later Tsar) Ferdinand, of Bulgaria, Fernando naso, on account of his beaky nose, and spread rumors that he was a hermaphrodite. Since Wilhelm was notably indiscreet, people always knew what he was saying behind their backs. Ferdinand had his revenge. After a visit to Germany, in 1909, during which the Kaiser slapped him on the bottom in public and then refused to apologize, Ferdinand awarded a valuable arms contract that had been promised to the Germans to a French company instead.

He literally fucked up so bad that he was willing to buy French guns over Germans one just because Bill was such a dick. If this isn't the perfect example of why leaders need to be charismatic, I don't know what is.

At least that's a lot more accurate than calling Trump the next Hitler, which has always been a HUGE sheltered leap.

Trump is bad.
Hitler bad...? No, historically not even close.

There's an enormous difference between a national leader making ridiculous policies that impact cultural demographics and a genocidal dictator who just flat out attempted to exterminate different cultures.

Pay respects to the thousands who were slain by Hitler's wrath by acknowledging that a modern lowballer like Trump doesn't even hold a candle in comparison...

No I'm going to pay respects to the old dudes from the 18th century who had enough foresight to draft a model for government that makes Trump becoming as bad as Hitler impossible.

Because he absolutely would if he could.

He'd probably be worse.

Hitler actually went to fight in the war when they told him to.

No one told Hitler to fight in the war.

He was a hoodlum with no money, who registered illegally in the German army without telling them he was Austrian.

Trump has completely lost touch with reality, just he's a bit more like Macbeth and less like Hitler.

Again the only thing preventing him from actually being Macbeth are laws that were set up 100s of years ago that he cannot just change.

No, IIRC, those were fabricated by his PR after-the-fact.

The 'Hitler was actually really smart' thing is an absolute myth. He was abysmal at anything that didn't involve public speaking. He was incredibly dense when it came to war, as well as being too arrogant to listen to the council of his very experienced staff (many of whom were highly dedicated WWI vets).

Couriers would probably be not part of the military today what with internet and satellites making delivering orders trivial in most cases. Hitler would have been in dangerous combat zones even if he did not fight personally. He would have been considered part of the military if he was delivering military orders.

Oh, like ignoring Rommel about falling back at El Alamein and losing Africa? Or pre-emptively declaring war on the US and losing Western Europe? Or like refusing to do recon for Operation Barbarosa and then obsessing over Stalingrad to try and make a point, forcing him into a war of attrition in Russia in the winter and losing him Eastern Europe? Or maybe when he dispatched the Einsatzgruppen in the Slavic companies, causing the Soviet hating peasants to become incredibly hardened partisan resistors instead of welcoming allies? Or running a campaign against the Jewish people that ultimately sent many amazing minds into the hands of their enemies, including Einstein who later worked on the atom bomb?

Just because they were his advisors does not mean they were hundred percent correct. Wars are not just lost and won on the battlefield. Its easy to get this false representation of war because war entertainment hardly touches on logistics, politics, non combat troops, and etc because they are meant to entertain not inform. Again, Germany was fighting a losing war due to manpower/resource shortages and its alliances were not as cohesive and efficient as the Allies. Putting all this in to play, Germany fell back from El Alamein because they were beaten resourcefully. Who cares what Rommel said because mathematically they were beaten so he was just going by magical thinking at this point.

And the Russian invasion is my favorite one. Lets put yourself in Germsnys Shoes for a moment? You see war with the USSR as an unavoidable conflict, you have just steam rolled Europe with your blirzkrieg tactics, you beat the **** our of the Russian empire in WW1, Stalin just purged his military staff and was rebuilding his country for a war aimed towards you, and the USSR fought a sloppy war against Finland. Last, the USSR has oil and large amounts of arable land for food which the Germans were severely lacking. Giving these thought points, do you really blame them?
