Thats the biggest load of crap. "Competetive pay" meaning if the fast food standard is X, mcdonalds will pay you X.

Which I wouldnt mind for other jobs in other industries. Engineer? competitive pay sounds good, at least you can assume(but do your homework) youre not getting hosed being hired for a below avg salary.

But the FF standard is likely minimum wage or near it, so competitive pay doesnt mean anything special

Yeah, and McDonald's ain't no Chik-fil-A. At any rate, it reminds me of the label on this one pack of circus peanuts which advertised them as being trans-fat free (and maybe cholesterol-free?), because that's the biggest concern with a candy that's pretty much solid sugar =p

McDonalds is one of the best places to work (locally). They're super chill, and because all the customers in my area are also super chill... like, people just hang out. Like, they'll still obey the corporate rules and not let customers hang out in the kitchen..., but other than that it's a very comfortable environment.

I have difficulty believing that there's any locale where that might be true because most places with that little opportunity wouldn't have a McDonald's.

McDonalds in Canada isn't a serf-market. They start at $15.60/hour (I had to edit it, it's minimum plus 3)

And by chill I mean like there's usually people in the kitchen playing pokemon with the random school kids and stuff

McDonald's seems like a pretty good place to work, even at my nearby location which is usually pretty busy, the employees seem pretty jovial. I'll probably apply there in the summer.

You're not from where I'm from (Lethbridge, AB). Go to the McDonald's on the corner of Scenic Drive and 3rd Ave S. Drug addicts having sex in the washrooms 24/7, period blood on the chairs, tables never wiped, empty bottles of Colt 45 under tables.

I dated a girl who worked there for a few months 8 years ago. The horror stories I heard were insane.

Even if it pays better than other low-end jobs in your area, it's still a low-end job. And, as far as low-end jobs go, you could probably make more working security, in a warehouse, or in manufacturing. Or even just working a Canadian Chik-fil-A (assuming those are a thing)

Thankfully we have a national minimum wage over here so we at least get paid that per hour unless voluntary work.

Not at the moment, but I believe they'll be expanding into Toronto soon.

But I'll be honest... KFC has better chicken sandwiches than Chick-fil-A, at least in Canada. Something is wrong with the KFC's in the US, the burgers don't taste right.

As someone who works in the Canadian manufacturing sector, the rate of pay in a lot of factories here in Ontario is currently just a little above minimum wage. Full-time hours is the only thing that makes the pay better, but in a lot of places around here, someone is taking home about $1800 a month after taxes, and the average rent on an apartment in my city is about $1350 a month.

McDonald's and all the other fast food places around here just upped their pay like crazy (from $10 an hour to $14-$16). That pays more than any of the jobs you mentioned and even more than starting pay for law enforcement in most places.
