If it was the first movie of that nature I'd ever seen I'd probably have enjoyed it more, but I went into it with higher expectations and was a bit disappointed. At best, you could say it was influenced by it (it absolutely was), but there's actually a number of movies in that "a bunch of weird people following clues to find hidden treasure, probably while having to travel from place to place in different vehicles while wacky shenanigans ensue" sort of genre. It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World is definitely an example of that (and one of the better examples of the genre in general), but Rat Race isn't a direct remake of it any more than The Matrix is a direct remake of The Terminator just because they're both action movies with guns involving a future where robots conquer the world and persecute humans.
