Probably a lot of you in the US saw Channel One at school, a news program aimed at kids and teenagers. And apparently it's not coming back this upcoming school year. It was always just kinda' that thing you watched during homeroom because it was on, but still, kinda' sad to hear of it's demise.

That takes me back. I remember liking Channel One very much. Sometimes teachers would give us bonus points if we could write a one or two page paper about our thoughts and responses to certain stories they covered.

It was nice to be informed about stuff and just talk about it as a class. I know that sounds cheesy, but when you got to like high school....you kinda enjoyed talking about important stuff besides who was dating who and crap.

Sad that it's ending. I wonder why. Lack of funding? Seems weird.

I remember that. It was a mandatory thing in my middle school, but optional by teacher in high school, which led me to only watching it for one year in high school. It was pretty alright stuff and made for a nice break in the day.

It doesn't sound cheesy. It sounds like Channel One was doing what it was meant to do, so good for that!

I used Channel One as the opportunity to finish up homework from the night before, usually, but I also watched it to try and figure out how old Lisa Ling actually was. ... Still no idea, heh.

That stupid garbage was basically schools funding themselves by showing students advertisements, with "news" in between.

I remember that. We had it for a couple years in middle school back when I lived in Missouri. I always thought it was a regional thing because I never saw it again after I moved to Wisconsin. I didn't like it much at the time, but looking back, it was kind of a neat thing.

Lisa Ling is still a very attractive woman for a 44 year old. That's just an awkward photo of her because she isn't smiling and looks caught off guard. If she walked past you on and street and gave you a beaming smile, you'd definitely think "Wow, who was that pretty lady?" and smile back at her.

Or you would gag and call her an "ugly horse face!" and then leg-sweep her and then point and laugh because you are a piece of crap human who can only be aroused by anime chicks.

**shrug**

I remember one of the old intros had a split second of a running T-Rex from a 1995 Playstation Developer's Demo Disc.

Seemed like a fair number of their hosts went on to some major broadcasters.
I imagine kids get more news on their phones while in homeroom now than they could get in a ~15? minute program.

Also, schools are probably too broke to pay for that kind of regular content.
Shame.

The only useful purpose it served was providing a ten minute or so nap at the beginning of the school day, in exchange for not having enough time to pee between classes.
