The problem in modern society is ironically the demasculation of modern men.

Consider the insult of a man living in their parents basement. Is that toxic masculinuty or the opposite?

Alot of people don't know what it means, and think it's an attack on men.

The most basic example I can give you is when my Grandmother died when I was like 10, I was told by many male and some female family members that 'boys don't cry'. So I proceeded to listen to those dumbasses, and dealt with it in retrospect very poorly.

I have since then called out the main ones I still deal with for the fucking stupidity of the entire debacle. I could get into specifics, but the amount of those people who bottle that shit up, and then take it out on their loved ones through stupid shit like drunken violence and affairs and shit astounds me.

When I think toxic masculinity, I think of like a guido who is ready to get in a fight with another guy who said hi to his girl. Meanwhile, toxic femininity is a group of girls who talk shit about whichever friend is not with them at the time.

So toxic masculinity exists, but that doesn't mean that masculinity itself is toxic.

But women do this too. There are women who will threaten to cut a b for talking to her man.
That is more a cultural thing than something from gender roles.

They are likely outnumbered by the amount of men who bottle it up and then take it out on themselves, either directly with suicide or indirectly with high risk behaviors such as drug abuse or alcoholism.

The main reason toxic masculinity is viewed so poorly is that as a subject of feminist research, it is invariably viewed through the lens of how these problems affect women, as though the ways it hurts men are secondary, irrelevant, not the point.

Men have little empathy for feminist goals principally because feminist theory rarely embraces men as victims.

ps: my answer to the topic question is yes.

The way it is presented puts men on the defensive. Another viewpoint is it can be seen as pretty condescending towards men. It's like you aren't holding individual men responsible for their attitudes and beliefs and instead view them as victims of toxic masculinity.

There should just be a gender neutral term that can call out both genders at once for highly gendered behaviors that when taken to the extreme can be pretty harmful.

So yeah just call out gender roles as a whole instead of just the male ones.

Anyone who says there is nothing problematic about the term toxic masculinity and nothing wrong with there not being a feminine counterpart to that term (with similar amounts of use) is being extremely obtuse.

While I agree with that, I said loved ones, not women, and I provided an example of how it affected me as a young boy, not how it affected women. Honestly I'm more concerned with how it affects children of both genders, but that's my bias I'll admit.

You do have a point though, look at all blind hatred in this topic because people are talking about gender issues.

What was manly about Elliot Rodgers? If anything, he was demasculated.

Men who are demasculatrd tend to lash out. They are lost and don't understand their place in the world. Saying toxic masculinity is the cause gives us no insight into the madness. It just saya " be scared of men!!". Which is false.
