A brief Google search brings up a dozen or more pages stating "there is no measure able safety difference" And I'll back that up with this wee fact: manuals have no different insurance rates than autos of the same vehicle. The only reason I can see getting a manual at this point is if you're a guy who's into classics or JDM's who doesn't have much of a choice. Other than that all modern auto's with paddles spray diarrhea on sticks. But what you seem to misunderstand is most people don't buy a manual for performance. As someone said, the guy showing me the features at the dealership said it was useful in icy conditions.
