I thought it was pretty cool. I really enjoyed Tom Cruise's acting.

How the fuck did he survive for 200 years tho? Like it'd be one thing if he got healthy and shit and ran rampant but when Brad Pitt found him again he was decrepit and weak as fuck still. And then he feeds on the interviewer which seemed like his first good meal in a while but...how the fuck did he get in the car so fast in his weakened state? Lol

Also I didn't get the whole "You want me to quicken you but I must respectfully decline" thing that Brad Pitt said to Antonio Banderas.

Good movie, good book.

He basically told Armand he was a heartless dick and he didn't want anything to do with him.

The thing with Lestat at the end was not in the book. It didn't make any sense how he got from New Orleans to San Francisco. Though he wasn't as hurt as you think. One meal would have perked him right up.

I didn't like the movie very much. I read the novel and I felt they cut way too much out of the story. the novel of Interview with the Vampire and the second one THe Vampire Lestat are some of my favorite books. but the movies were lackluster.

some other good ones from the same writer are

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mummy,_or_Ramses_the_Damned

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Servant_of_the_Bones

both good but not connected to the vampires. Servant of the Bones especially I loved. it's about a jewish boy and it starts over 5 thousand years ago and....that's all I should say really.

the mummy is kinda like the recent mummy movie they had with Tom Cruise, except it's actually good.

People cite Twilight as the catastrophic decline of vampires, but Anne Rice was the bitch that really did a number on them.

Perfect casting. Ok movie. Like how it has vampires but isnt just another horror movie. Never read the books though. Would actually pretty highly recommend as a Netflix movie.

Six years passed between New Orleans and San Fran. Lestat probably followed Louis to his interview with Christian Slater and picked him out. He might even have eased dropped on the conversation since he offered to turn him right after he said Louis to turn him.

the first two books are great, but the series certainly drops off hard after that. at least i definitely began to lose interest.

the movie is great, but is definitely a 'compact' version of the story. the acting is great, the costumes and scenery are iconic, and overall it's definitely worth watching at least once.

avoid queen of the damned, though. not worth wasting time on that, unless you're reallllllly curious for whatever reason. won't be worth it.

She made them into the tired "tortured soul, aristocratic lover" bullshit. Vampires are monsters. They're night stalkers, bloodsuckers, unholy abominations, etc.

Blood Omen 1 did the vampire personality correctly.

Psychological trauma/PTSD.

Lestat acts all cool and collected, but he's actually been through a lot. Also remember the last time he saw Louis, Louis set him on fire.

They are working on a TV series now based on the books, like Game of Thrones. Anne Rice is very involved (she was not involved with the movie at all, except for writing the script, and she was not involved in Queen of the Damned at all). Her son Christopher is the main writer for the series.

Tom Cruise is great.

Brad Pitt is okay but below average performance for him I think.

The story seemed awesome to me as a teenager in the 90s but now it feels like generic vampire stuff.

Still good but not as good as it was back then, for me at least.

It seems like "generic vampire stuff" now because everyone who writes vampires ripped off what Anne was doing. The book was written in like 1977. She pretty much single-handedly brought vampires back, and spawned a lot of imitators.

She didn't bring shit back. Vampires were always in, she just made them into teenage heart throbs and murdered their mystique while exponentially upping the effeminacy.

I also really liked Kirsten Dunst in this movie. Played the perfect brat but was awesome in her manipulation. When she slit Tom Cruise's throat I laughed pretty heartily

Kid vampires have only been done well in Let The Right One In.

The original movie, of course. Not that dogshit American remake.

Let the Right One In is the better movie, and will likely be remembered as a vampire/horror classic, but Let Me In was also pretty good

This is true, and true of a lot of things that are pioneers. They find a new way of doing things and then other people copy it until it becomes cliche.

But at the same time, sometimes the originals manage to stand out even among the imitators. The Godfather manages to stand out even though countless movies and TV series have copied it.

Rice had a lot of great ideas and she definitely deserves credit for them though.

Okay one thing I was confused about.

Brad Pitt pretty much wanted to die. Then he became a vampire. Then he hated it until Tom Cruise forced his hand by making Kirsten Dunst a vampire. But then she dies and it seems like Brad Pitt still kind of fucking hates everyone and the world. So what was his motivation to live? That he wanted to get the truth about vampires out to that reporter guy?
