Here comes the backlash to the backlash.

Thousands have signed an online petition for the Walt Disney Co. to rehire Guardians of the Galaxy writer and director James Gunn after he was fired from the third film in the series Friday.

Gunn had been targeted for criticism by figures connected to a far-right fringe movement, who began highlighting a series of offensive shock-jokes Gunn made, some more than a decade old, on Twitter and his blog.

Fellow director Joe Carnahan (The Grey, Smokin Aces) shared the petition on Twitter, where it had collected more than 5,000 signatures as of Saturday afternoon. By early evening, it had risen to nearly 16,000.

By Sunday morning, the total had climbed to 51,000.

At the very least I doubt he'll be able to do GOTG3. Not sure if the controversy is enough to sink his career completely. We live in weird times if it is.

all it does is make them claim they considered it and then reject it. most petitions don't work. you would need the entire planet to sign it and swear to boycott disney if they don't fucking listen. anything short of that and they dont care. and most people are too causal to know who made the movies, and to care about this. the average person isn't even aware this is happening. that's why Disney is getting away with it.

No idea, but my point still stands that SJW has always existed. Its just now with the internet and social media everything you type out gets recorded and readily available for the world to see. Outrage culture isnt the problem, its people sharing their every thought online and thinking it wont come back to bite them in the ass.

Are some things blown out of proportion and now its guilty until proven innocent? Of course, but James Gunn at one point did actually write that and what his EMPLOYER wishes to do with that info is between him and Disney.

People don't want kids to seek him out at conventions for photos and signatures.

He wasn't fired for one joke, he was fired for making many, years worth of jokes, and because it was found. Also, they didn't shut down the project like they did with Roseanne (who actually only made one offensive joke) costing the rest of the crew their jobs as well. Guardians3.0 is still going to happen, it's just going to have a new director which could be better or worse. He hasn't been arrested like Dankula was. If he is, it'll be because something surfaces that's real like a series of accusations that might be proven true. He hasn't been black listed (as far as we know) from making any movies. He just isn't going to be able to work with Disney anymore. If he can't find work then that's a problem within Hollywood that one might address.

What's more is he championed Roseanne getting fired and her show shut down for making one insensitive joke on social media so by his own values, he is 100% guilty at least 40 times over. What goes around comes around.
