One of the most beloved TV Series is ready for a reboot..and that's Joss Whedon's BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER..but this time it's with a BLACK FEMALE LEAD!!

It's being developed by Fox 21 TV Studios where the original ran for 7 seasons on the WB before moving to UPN..both networks are defunct.

Midnight Texas Creator, Monica Owusu-Breen is tapped as the writer, executive producer with Joss Whedon set to executive produce.

The new version will be pitched to streaming and cable networks this summer and will be a contemporary setting building the mythology of the original

But as producers urged, the new version will be DIVERSE as the show's producer intention is to ensure that the slayer is African American.

The original was headlined by Sarah Michelle Gellar in the 1990's adaptation that was a major hit back in the day. It was a real gaming changer for the WB that had a devoted following and after 15 years it's still strong since it's cancellation where Buffy saved the world and unleashed a world of Slayers leaving her not the only slayer with powers in the owrld.

It also had a successful spinoff toplined by David Boreanaz who played Angel and Buffy's former love interest on the show

I just hope they make her hot instead of, "exaggerated natural hair, no time for girly stuff, speaks her mind about social justice issues to an army of sexist strawmen" protagonist.

I'm interested, and I liked the Buffy series.

hopefully it won't be grimdark and/or resemble the plot/tone of CW supernatural shows.

xander wasnt completely useless
did you not watch the series? he helped out a ton and was the heart of the group
he wasnt as powerful as the women in the show but he had several moments to shine and even saved the world once

I feel like if you have to reboot a show that already had loads of girl power and then kick the feminism up to 1000 by advertising it as diverse show with a black girl as the lead..... You've basically said this is the SJW: the show - internet edition

While girl power is a part of the original, the show became a cult classic for many other reasons and one of its biggest problems was the men were mostly emasculated 99% of the time.

Tara and willow was such a good relationship because it was a sweet love story that over came adversity..... Is this versions gay couple just going to be flamboyant and in your face about it? Because sjw want that.

I'm really confused, is this actually a full reboot, as in there's an entirely new Buffy, or is it just a new series set in the same universe?

and on teen wolf lydia martin was played by a 24 year old (30 by the end of the series) and since teen wolf had 6 seasons covering only 2 years that means it was a 30 year old playing an 18 year old

but early on they made a point of giving him episodes to show that he wasnt useless
and he did get to save the world in season 6

but apparently his actor was once told at the start of season 3 that they had finished all the planned stories for the character and had nothing more for him to do but couldnt kill him off either so he wasnt going to get to do anything important very often anymore

I really hope it's a continuation and not a reboot, but I don't see them bothering with having this one Slayer be one of hundreds in an organization full of them.

I suppose there's always a chance that they'll do a Frey adaptation, but I think the chances of a sci-fi vampire slayer show is even less likely.

All in all...not hyped.
