Its one thing if they went thru auditions and they found a black woman who was simply THE BEST from all the others and decided to hire her to be the new Buffy.

But to decide that she will be black before auditioning just reeks of unnecessary virtue signaling. Look at us guys! Arent we so progressive!? Were restricting our search to a black woman because were progressive!

This is why Trump won.

End affirmative action. Lets not patronize hard working African Americans by saying you wouldnt have gotten this role if it wasnt for me changing the rules.

I'm an "actual" Buffy fan and I want this whether it is a sequel or a reboot. I'll take what I can get. I have no problem with a black main character even if it's a black reboot Buffy. I do have a problem with them specifically looking for a black Buffy for the sake of it. If they auditioned a bunch of girls and a black one did the best, fantastic. That's not what happened here though and it sucks.

No offense to you, but I HATE that mindset. You shouldn't 'take what you can get' if you're actually a fan. You should like it as it was and only want more if it's quality/in-line with what you've already seen/liked.

Doesn't make sense to be a blind follower just because it uses the universe/mythos of a show you like.

charmed i enjoyed but it wasnt really a good show but it was a fun show
it was a cheap attempt to cash in on the success of buffy by having pretty girls fight monsters and it did its job.

though charmed holds the honor of being the longest running action series of all time with a female lead
an honor i wish had gone to buffy but sadly nope

buffy had 7 seasons while charmed had 8
i think xena had 6

Changing characters for no reason is exactly what people have a problem with.

By all means, create a spinoff or an entirely new series focusing on a different character, and make that character whatever. There's plenty of media out there with minority / female / LGBT leads, that have done well; which were always intended to have such a character. What kind of media with them fails, though? Those that take an existing character and make them minority / female / LGBT for no reason.

It's happened with virtually every media that's tried to do that. You'd think they'd realise it by now. It's proven to be unprofitable, and yet they continue to do it, which can only mean one of two things... either they're more interested in causing outrage itself (either for the lulz or for some greater goal), or they're stupid. And I somewhat doubt they're stupid.
