Can you think of a game where you're actually given bonuses for dying, or can sacrifice some of your lives for bonuses? I know I've read where some games subtly make it easier for you if you keep dying at a certain spot, but I can't think of an example where this has been made explicit.

supposedly in the new From Software game, Seriko, there is some advantage to death (tricking enemies into lowering their guard) but you can't use it infinitely.

Project Gorgon is an MMORPG that's been in active development for several years now, it's actually pretty robust and they're still working on it despite it still being "in early access". One of its skills is Dying. The more ways you die, the higher your Dying skill gets, which grants you passive bonuses to stuff like health and defense. It's actually a recommendation for new players to die as much as possible to unlock those bonuses sooner.

Also when you die you leave behind a gravestone that people can interact with to increase another skill.

dark souls games, kind of.

if you die you leave a bloodstain that shows how you died, so other players can see it and be alerted of possible traps/ambushes/etc. not a benefit for you but it's a benefit for the playerbase as a whole that someone dies so others may live

Also now that you mention it, I do recall playing a game recently where I was dying repeatedly at certain parts and then I would successfully beat that part but only because less enemies spawned. I chalked it up to being a glitch but maybe it was indeed designed that way. Wish I could remember the game now (maybe it was Mafia 2?).
