Met a girl who opens her bananas from the bottom. She said she does it because that's how monkeys do, and they're the "banana eating pros".

And apparently the stem acts as a handle.

Is this a normal thing for humans to do?

Sometimes the stem is flimsy or the banana is too soft so opening it that way can be messier. I've done it both ways in my life tbh, but mainly open from the bottom now.
