http://www.denofgeek.com/us/tv/robot-wars/274951/exclusive-robot-wars-is-coming-to-us-tv-on-science-channel

Similar to BattleBots, the robotic combat show that US audiences are more familar with, Robot Wars originally aired (first on BBC2 in the UK and then syndicated on TechTV in the US) in the late 90's and early 2000's before being cancelled in 2004. Also similar to BattleBots, Robot Wars was rebooted a couple years ago and brought back to UK television on BBC2, where it has aired three seasons since. Now, for the first time since its reboot, episodes of Robot Wars will be legally available to watch outside of the UK.

Science Channel was already showing episodes of the rebooted BattleBots as well (although these episodes actually premiere on Discovery Channel the week before) so now the channel will be bringing a double dose of robotic combat on Wednesday nights. Fans can now watch both shows together and compare the similarities and differences between the two competitions. But more importantly, it's just even more of the metal-mashing mayhem that fans of the sport love to see.

Also, I'm just gonna tag some of the people who were posting regularly in the BattleBots discussion topic before it purged:

@Orthopox12
@El_Mexicano_Texano
@KFHEWUI
@DevsBro
@DuneMan
@DuranOfForcena
@unclekoolaid73
@Gheb

When BattleBots returns from its two week hiatus on August 3 with a new episode on Discovery Channel, I'll make a new "Robot Combat" discussion topic that we can use to discuss both BattleBots and Robot Wars together.

I come home and find that I've been mentioned in a post about 58 seconds ago and it's news of more metal mayhem. Nice.

Btw, was there ever a gif made of the recent hit between Son of Whyachi and Monsoon? That hit sent both bots practically flying across the arena.

I remember Robot Wars.

I liked it at first when it was legitimately fun and full of interesting robots. There were obstacle courses and games instead of JUST fights, which lead to a vareity of gimmicks and different robots.

However the guys who made the show discovered that fans liked the fights most and they were the cheapest and easiest to film. So it became ALL fights.

I remember one episode where they had a tiny little robot with a Spike on the end that was shit but super fast and moble. I think it's top speed was 115 MPH.

It sucked at fights and tug of war and stuff but was great at the other games and it made the show exciting. Imagining that robot in a fight is laughable.

But then some of the robots designs were just too good and always won. So then all the robots became the same. Just very minor varations on the same 4 designs that always won.

And then because of that they went crazy with the gimmicks and all the house robots just started acting stupid to try to make the boredom entertaining and they added a Ref Bot and all sorts of shit.

Then they started doing fake pre fight interviews where the guys who designed the robots now had gimmicks and intro videos and cut pro-wrestling interviews... It was just dumb.

Feels like one of those shows that just went on too long. It's like every episode was Superman IV.

I'm not sure I get Science Channel. But more robot carnage is always welcomed.

This has also gotta mean that Battlebots is doing well for Discovery/Science if they reached out to get more robot combat.

is it going to be new episodes of a new season of Robot Wars, or is it just syndicated airings of it or whatever starting with the first season?

It sounds like the UK has had a reboot of Robot Wars for the last 3 years or so, and the episodes are now being shown outside the UK.

Exactly right. This is just the syndication of the rebooted Robot Wars for the US audience.

also i dunno if it was intentional or not, but you have a couple of BattleBots gifs in there with the Robot Wars ones lol

I split the gifs between the two shows to help kickstart the comparisons. Both shows have their strengths and unique things compared to the other, and the viewers can decide for themselves which one they like better. I think both of them are amazing, though I still ever so slightly prefer Robot Wars over BattleBots.

Yeah, this is definitely good news. If the fans show enough desire for more robot combat, hopefully it could lead to more seasons of both shows. Plus, the two shows being on the same channel also opens up the very slight possibility of some sort of crossover special between the two shows in the future, which has never happened before.

Shunt, Matilda, Dead Metal and Sir Killalot all returned to patrol the warzone. The other house robots (including Sgt. Bash, one of the originals) did not.

Razer did return for the first season of the rebooted Robot Wars. Some other veteran bots from the original series returned as well, such as Storm 2, Behemoth, Dantomkia, Big Nipper, and Terrorhurtz. A few other teams from the old days returned with new bots, such as Gary Caims (the former captain of Typhoon 2) entering with PP3D, Team Outlaw (formerly of Velocirippa and Mighty Mouse fame) entering with Ironside, and Ian Watts (the former captain of Bigger Brother) entering with a clusterbot called The Swarm.

Unfortunately, Team Hypno-Disc has not had such a return. Although they have given it some thought and answered questions from fans about it, they're not really considering building a new robot or bringing Hypno-Disc out of retirement. They haven't 100% ruled it out though, so fans can hold onto what little hope is still there.

Yes, it purged. I mentioned in post 2 that I'll be making a new Robot Combat discussion topic when BattleBots comes back from hiatus in August, so we can discuss both shows in the same place. I'll tag you guys in that one when that day comes.

Oh, missed it!

I rewatched the Ice Wave vs Skorpios fight, and I honestly do not get how the judges could choose Skorpios. It did next to no damage while Ice Wave sliced it to pieces.

New rules. If your main weapon breaks you score points for pushing at your opponent. So even though Ice Wave was getting a decent slice here and there the timer ran out before it could disable Skorpios. It's the least rewarding victory EVER, but they did it so disabled bots still stood a chance.

Yep. Skorpios won on control, aggression, and strategy, 1 point apiece. Damage counts as 2 points, but if that's all Icewave won on, then it lost the judges decision 3-2.
