That police chief is so far out of touch with reality. His speech to the academy graduates was fucking demoralizing. His stated intent is to get the police actually working with the community but instead he just has 8-10 officers rolling around literally harassing people and committing illegal acts.

And then you have that one cop that's like "derp at 2 and a half years in that's when I killed someone for the first time" and then he just talks about it like it was nothing.

I'd figure if you investigate MOST police departments, you'd find just as disturbing things.

I definitely concur with you there. It's just sad to see that they legitimately believe they're doing something for the good of the community. They just blatantly go around abusing people and then say they're doing real police work.

How do they cope with that? Are they going to go to a different police department, or try to tough it out?

Watching the next episode of this show, the police chief went with the cops to shut down a liquor store and the store owner was angrily but rationally expressing her grievances. She was arguing with the police but also complying with their demands to surrender her key and everything. The one cop told her to "have a better day" which of course made her even more pissed off because who the hell says that, and then the police chief threatened to arrest her.

Friggin' ridiculous. And they know they're on camera and they don't give a shit.

This one guy is talking about it like a military operation.

I've read the studies about the militarization of the police departments and who they're inviting to provide training and shit but actually seeing it on video is surreal.

committing illegal acts.

Which ones?????

They approached a guy sitting in his car in a driveway, said they smelled weed, and in a fairly invasive manner patted the guy down. Then made fun of him for his clothes and said some dumb jokes. Basically just harassing him. Then they let him go.

They pulled another guy over for playing music too loudly. He stopped in his driveway. They cuffed him and put him in the car when they found out he didn't have a driver's license on him ("it's in my house here"). They never informed him of why they pulled him over, they didn't read him any rights... and then they just let him go after telling him he needs to pull over immediately next time. They didn't even check his license...

They shut a convenience store down because of illegal activity that was going on... outside of the store. And then at the legal hearing the judge got pissed off and ordered that they immediately let the store reopen.

None of this illegal per federal law. Dick move? Yes. The whole reading miranda rights thing is really not how you see in movies. I've read miranda once, to a shoplifter.

The guy was driving and playing music too loudly. I guess. I get it... I don't know. They didn't explain that to him and the reason they cuffed him is because he didn't have his driver's license on him. And then they yelled at him and verbally berated him for not pulling over immediately. And then let him go without checking his license.

Yes not having your license on is good reason to be handcuffed. Are you crazy??

Who is this person? How do you know who they are. What If they're a fleeing felon?

Do you know how many people I've arrested that dont have drivers license and I look up them after and they have a warrant

If there's clear probable cause, why not actually do a complete search of the vehicle? The reason they stopped is because the guy didn't have a seatbelt on...That's not probable cause to search for drugs.

And how is a pat down literally not a search. That goes contrary to all common sense. I can believe that that's somehow the law, but that doesn't make it any more right.

What you're saying makes sense.
The problem is they cuffed him, put him in the car, then verbally berated him and let him go.

Also, do you literally not have a way to look up someone's ID in a system if they're able to provide their license number?

Because searching a vehicle is a whole different ballgame rights wise. A pat down is literally an open hand palm pat down of the body for weapons and more likely than not drugs. A search is literally going through all your pockets, emptying shit

Clear distinction and they both have their own set of rights

Dude, we all know you're a cop. We get it that you have a bias for your profession and need to defend it while telling people they don't know as much as you do about your own job.

Just remember to be honest and admit there are major problems with law enforcement across the country as well. Your comment defending the Las Vegas PD was pretty telling. Major PDs in big cities having corruption issues is by no means unheard of and you just immediately dismissed it without any real argument being made.

For the record, cops being jerks should be very illegal. It is an abuse of power and does no good to help the community. I get it, the law is written in such a way as to give law enforcement certain powers and privileges. The problem is when you have no real means of holding law enforcement accountable.

Color me shocked when this goes on for too long and now law enforcement has a major PR problem that has only gotten worse and will continue to get worse until law enforcement decides to make some very significant changes to their operations.

Funny you mention the no real argument being made when the original claim was Vegas PD is insanely fucking corrupt and shitty like that was even descriptive to begin with.

What kind of corruption? One too many free coffees at 7-11 on a shift corruption or we commit armed robberies and make plans to murder federal agents in drug deals New Orleans PD thats why the entire department was dismantled and rebuilt kind of corruption?
